^^ Wow, I didn’t think that had worked. I got this weird WordPress error message after doing the full-on post. The missing details for the Frencham/Smith gig are that it’s at The Folkus Room in Mawson. Doors and bistro at 6pm, music from 8pm. $20/$15 (members and concessions). More details at http://www.thefolkus.org.au

God bless my eyesight and oversight. The support for this gig is the truly wonderful Gerry Doyle, superb Irish singer/songwriter who does originals plus masterful interpretations of other people’s work.

Not actually at the weekend, but I heard somewhere that Herman’s Hermits are playing at Casino Canberra on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Quostatus, I’ve never seen Split Decision, but their posters gave me a chuckle – one of the best cover bands in Florey eh?

quostatus 11:40 am 11 Sep 08

Split Decision at the Pot Belly in Belconnen, Friday night, 9.30 – 12.30. Not your ordinary covers band!

Also, at the Merry Muse on Friday 12 September, Simone and Sophie Penkethman and Chanel Cole.

Three original styles combine for a rich and rare evening of song. Chanel Cole is best known as the classy, quirky Australian Idol finalist of 2005.

Simone Penkethman is the passionate, guitar-slinging front woman of long-standing local group, Simone and the Soothsayers. Her daughter, Sophie is a formidable young multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Accompanying each other with piano, bass and guitar, they’ll share both stage and songs.

The Merry Muse at the Polish White Eagle Club, 38 David St, Turner. Doors 7pm-ish, music from 8pm. $15/$12 (members and concessions). Details at http://www.merrymuse.org.au

I’ll have some free tickets to give away during the breakfast program on Artsound FM on Friday morning (7-9am).

Then I’m hopping off to the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival for the weekend for a bit of a sing and a vat or three of Guinness.

Overheard sent in the following:

Sadly clashing with the CMC Launch, but here’s the info anyway. (In fact, Fred’s playing at both.)

Fred Smith and Liz Frencham are on tour in NSW this September presenting material from Fred’s new album Texas (review below from last weekends SMH), Frencham Smith classics and a few brand new songs too!

That’s for Saturday night.

I will be going to this:

“Join us this Friday evening at The Basement, 2 Cohen Street Belconnen (under the Sportsman’s Warehouse), to enjoy a selection of local bands and help the Liberal cause.

Performers include The Tullys, Sean Smeaton, Nic Jones, The Toxic Men and more, for only $10! All proceeds will be donated to the campaign to elect Matthew Watts to the seat of Ginninderra.

For more information, visit http://www.wattstherightchoice.com or call Matt on 0409 017 891.”
