September 2009 calender

In an attempt to aid with weekend event planning we are moving the DIY weekend guide back to its traditional home of Thursdays!

So, with it possibly being a little wet, what’s your tips for weekend activities?

We are going to send one of the Riot admin team (although I haven’t told the rest of them this yet) to what we feel is the best suggestion and if they liked it we will give the commenter who suggested it some random Rioty prize. Tempting isn’t it 😉

Inner North Community Fair Spring Clean Clothes Swap

Sustainable fashion collective Green Threads, in conjunction with ACT otherWISE will be holding their next public clothes swap this Sunday, September 20th at the Inner North Community Fair.

This is the perfect opportunity to spring clean your cupboard and swap some unwanted clothes (that are still in good condition) for some new and wonderful wardrobe finds for this lovely spring weather.

Everyone is welcome, girls, boys, ladies, men, fashionistas and otherwise. This swap is about giving unworn clothing a new lease on life, and reducing the impact of our lifestyles on the environment so our system is pretty casual. You can take more than you give, you can give more than you take, and if you have nothing to give at all then make a donation to ACT otherWISE and support youth led sustainability in Canberra.

When: Sunday 20th September, 11am to 3pm

Where: Banksia Street Wetlands O’Connor (next to the tennis courts).

It’s ‘Pirates’ Day’ on Saturday the 19th in World of Warcraft if you want to spend time indoors, on the computer and out of the Spring sunshine… or nip on after the kids are in bed. See you in Booty Bay me hearties ARGHHHH.

Ha… imagine all those Bloodsail Admirals constantly being attacked by goblins…. mayhem!

The 19th is also International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I urge everybody to meet at King O’Malleys 6PM dressed at a scury seadog with a fake parrot on your shoulder.

Fadden Primary is holding a fete on Sunday, with a petting zoo, pony rides, a huge Trash and treasure stall, bouncy castle, BBQ, rides and and the usual fete stuff.

The annual ANU Film Group Trivia Night is on Saturday night at the Canberra Club, doors open at 6:45pm, tickets $15. Cool prizes, interesting trivia, great company… and bucketloads of glory to the winners.

Computer Market, Old Bus Depot Kingston, Saturday 10AM-2:30PM. Remember this is also Software Freedom Day and a stall will be there where you can find out about free stuff on the Net and also get some on disc.

Conder Primary School is having a fete on Saturday too. I love spring fete season!

Canberra Orchid Society annual show, St Johns Hall in Reid, 11am til 5 on Saturday, 12pm til 4:30 on Sunday.

At last years show, without really intending to, we arrived ten minutes before it opened, and were slightly surprised by the long queue of tense looking people waiting to get in. Once they opened the doors, all was clarified as everyone sprinted for the sales table and started madly trying to collect all the bargains as fast as possible. It was slightly more passion than we were expecting at an orchid show on a saturday morning, and I for one will be heading along at 10:45am on Saturday for the mild thrill of the queue and some bargain orchids.

And in a lovely submission and piece of self promotion from Eastlake Football Club
