So here we all are at the end of another week and considering how to spend our hard earned leisure dollars.

Let rip in the comments and advise your fellow Rioters as to where the fun can be found this weekend.

(Assuming you haven’t just picked up your copy of Final Fantasy XII are preparing to enter a social cave for the next month)

Impro Theatre ACT: Sugar High – Improvides theatre sports type show, with free lollies and impro guru Lyn Pierse’s book launch.

7:30 pm, Sunday night at the Street Theatre.

See http://www.impro.com.au/shows.php

I guess it doesn’t help to yell “your fly is open!” to them.

Well in Mombasa the waiters carry the drinks on a tray on their heads (often with disastrous results), so ‘Awkwards’ is an appropriate new name.

Awkward’s opening where Mombasa is/was (their last weekend open was the one just past). The Mombasa owner also now owns Nitro (South Pac) and decided having two wasn’t sustainable or somesuch. There was a piece about Awkward in the latest BMA.

Jey in Canberra!
Celebrating her 23rd birthday (Monday) on Saturday night.
WoOt!

According to the internets, there’s a new bar open on Bunda St called Awkward Bar. My sources tell me that you’re not allowed to wear pants and the air conditioning is on full. (Not my joke btw – plagiarised from ITM).

Does anyone know about this place? Seems like there’s a lot of hip hop shows there in the next few days… and there’s no homepage. A new drinking hole in town is always a good thing, even if it’s going to be full of boys calling each other bro and telling exaggerated stories about their crew.

Friday @ Toast sees the Creme Organisation from Holland hit Canberra… DJ TLR, Legowelt and Orgue Electronique are all playing with Not Happy Jan from Melbourne, ex-Canberran Bec Paton and Shunji. Loads of acts for only $5! And no, I don’t work for them, I just reckon it’ll be a hot party. Check http://www.ugbeats.com for more info.

Thankyou – Now to pick which ones to catch!

yes, you are missing something. You’ve only looked on the JB front page…try this

Good in theory – Justbands has a listing of acts, but no times! It links to Greenroom, which directs me to BMA, which again has a listing of acts, but no times…
Am I maybe missing something?

maybe just click my name now if this worked

> So how to find out who’s on when at the Canberra Band Explosion? I don’t think I could make it through the whole thing…

Check out Just Bands for a full list of bands & times. littlesmoke.com/justbands

So how to find out who’s on when at the Canberra Band Explosion? I don’t think I could make it through the whole thing…

Bands on at the Potbelly for those who don’t wanna venture southside to the greenroom.

Downhills Home (Mel,)The Ashburys, Crystal Thomas (Mel)

Meant to say there are two shows – 1pm and 7pm.
(Sorry about the multiple postings), I’m a duffa.

The Waterfront Restaurant in Gungalin (51 Strayleaf Cres, Gungahlin) is having some sort of Chinese New Year festival. Dragons, drums and presumably a ton of food. All free, should be worth a look.

footy on saturday arvo.

footscray v south melbourne.

if i use my imagination, i could even say at the lakeside oval…

i’ll be there. say hi to me in the queue at the pie stand (early, before they run out).

It will be good to see Aker in action. even if i cant stand him, he’s a magician on the grass.

GO WIDE DOGGIES!

Screensound has Roger Corman’s “Frankenstein Unbound” (with John Hurt, Bridget Fonda and Raul Julia – described in the press release as “a meeting of big ideas and compellingly blunt storytelling”) on Saturday at 7:30 in the courtyard – tickets are $8.

ANU Film group has Clint Eastwood’s Flags of our Fathers tonight, a double bill of Borat and A Good Year tomorrow night, another double bill of Children of Men and Fearless on Saturday and The Prestige on Tuesday – tickets are $15 for a weekly membership including all of the above, or $35 for the semester or $60 for the year. All screening at the Coombs lecture theatre on the ANU campus, on the corner of Garran and Fellowes roads. Semester 1’s program is linked here here .

Impro ACT has its regular “Fearless Friday” gig at the Street theatre on Friday from 5:30-7 – bunches of people making it up as they go along, including free music. Plus there’s “Sugar High”, their mainstage show from 7:30 on Sunday (tickets $18, $15 concession)

Canberra Rep’s production of “Noises Off”, a farce about a farce, kicks off this week – preview tonight has all tickets at $22, otherwise there’s opening night tomorrow and a performance on Saturday night (all at 8) at $33, $25 concession.
