There’s so much going on this weekend it’s sending me weak at the knees.

But what are you interested in seeing and doing around town this weekend?

Latin American Food Festival

Just got back from this. Couldn’t believe the range or the prices – $3.50 for a huge tray full of pastel de choclo! I had sopaipillas, empanadas, vigoron, the pastel, Mayan hot chocolate and a slice of quezadilla. No room left for tamales 🙁

Market stalls, Italian food stalls, music and more to welcome in the season of Winter and to celebrate Italian National Day.

When functioning properly, the human psycadian rhythm responds to the psychedelic call of local wildlife and blooms at the morning light of a new day. This response causes an irresistible urge in humanoids to dance as one tribe, magnifying the effect and creating an overwhelming sense of joy.

Join us at Rose Cottage to experience this phenomenon for yourself! Spread over two stages, expect a night of smooth progressive, warped psytrance, twisted minimal and chilled live tunes, amazing performance and dance your way into the new day!

Tickets $15 (+bf) pre-sale, $25 on the door.

Please note this is an 18+ only event

Former Iron Maiden vocalist Paul DiAnno is on at the Basement on Monday night.

$50 to watch some washed up dude play cover songs of the band he was booted from.

It’s a bit sad really.

Can you cover songs you have a writing credit for? I’m not sure.

Wotz On – Celluloid Edition

ANU Film group – tonight, if you’re already sick of Obama and longing for the glory days of the former president, Oliver Stone’s W. is screening.
Friday night, it’s espionage with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen in DUPLICITY, followed by spooks and women running around in their underwear in THE UNBORN.
Saturday night, Richard Curtis’ THE BOAT THAT ROCKED is followed by Sean Penn in his Oscar-winning role in MILK.
And Wednesday, it’s the Canberra premiere of the horror-gore musical REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, starring, amongst others, Paris Hilton!
All screenings start at 8pm, Coombs Theatre on the ANU Campus, membership available at the door from $15, see http://www.anufg.org.au for more details.

Arc – the Bunuel season continues with ILLUSION TRAVELS BY STREETCAR tonight 7.30pm, THE CRIMINAL LIFE OF ARCHIBALDO DE LA CRUZ and UN CHIEN ANDALOU at 4.30pm on Saturday, and the Palme d’Or winning VIRIDIANA on Sunday at 1.30pm. On Saturday night, the short Louis Malle season concludes with the Oscar and Venice Film Festival winner AU REVOIR LES ENFANTS, 7.30pm. http://www.nfsa.gov.au/whats_on/arc

Big House Film Society – ghosts and other creepiness abounds with SUMMERFIELD (featuring, by pure chance, Bud Tingwell!) followed by Jack Clayton’s classic THE INNOCENTS. 1pm Sunday, Canberra Museum and Gallery, membership available at the door.

As you can see, Hancock Basement are on tonight in Transit.

The Baterz tribute tomorrow night at the Folkus room is threatening to be huge with half the inner north googling for travellers tips on survival south of the lake and consulting their iphones for directions to those parts unknown. (Italian Club in Forrest, don’t be late).

Wedded Bliss CD launch on Saturday at the polish club in Turner will let us compare the merits of the duelling folk venues.

Also the science festival is on with some stuff that may be of interest:
