The pillar might be silent as to what’s worth doing this weekend, but I think we here at RiotACT can do better.

The comment box awaits your ideas as to things worth seeing and doing this weekend.

There’s another big event in town tomorrow (Sunday) from 11am to 5pm: the annual ACT Contact or is it Contact ACT, where all Canberra’s clubs and associations and little groups get the chance to tell the populace about what they do. Hit the Festival page (see my comment above) for more details.

I took a swing around the lake and through the city this morning and it’s already buzzing.

Bring your membership card or you won’t get in.

Sorry, bit more info: they will let you in if you become a member at the gate on the day. Also, apparently kids under 4 can get in without membership.

Raiders Members’ Day
From 2pm Saturday

Raiders HQ Eade St Bruce (not Canberra Stadium)
There’s parking lot nearby at the south end of Eade St.

Bring your membership card or you won’t get in.
Also remember to slip slop slap, coz they surely won’t be cramming 3000 people indoors and it’ll be a hot one.

The Jules Verne Project Cave Concert
Saturday 4:30 for 5:00pm start $33 per head Bookings essential. The fabulous acoustic environment of Carey’s Cave is the setting for an evocative musical experience inspired by Verne’s Journey To The Centre Of The Earth on the eve of the great man’s birthday. Encompassing music from classical to contemporary folk. Cello, flute, guitar, mandolin, keyboard, voice.

HANDMADE MARKET HANDMADE MARKET HANDMADE MARKET
I’m so looking forward to this. I’d go for Rockstars & Royalty alone, but there’s going to be so many nice handmade things 🙂

Although Tackanalia sounds like fun too.

With the weather looking like this:

Saturday. Fine, sunny.
Min 19. Max 39.

Will make for superb conditions for the Food and Wine Spectacular (a.k.a. meat on a stick/foreign beer day/night mentioned above) throughout the city centre, 11am-11pm. I’ll be helping out for some of the time at the Scottish Fijian Women’s Friendship Association stall near Akuna Street: champagne with strawberries and chocolate-dipped strawberries — not my thang personally, but the punters can never get enough.

Also, the Fringe Festival kicks off Friday night and runs until Saturday 14 Feb in Civic Square in front of the Canberra Theatre/City Library. Loads of free stuff EVERY night, including the Canberra Musicians Club night on Monday 9 Feb.

Heaps of other good stuff related to the Multicultural Festival here: http://www.multiculturalfestival.com.au/

Radio stuff on Artsound FM 92.7FM/90.3FM: Friday 5-7pm (The Crooked Fiddle Band playing live in the studio and chatting ahead of their Fringe gigs); Sunday 10am-midday (Simone Penkethman chatting, playing, singing ahead of Wed night album launch at the Fringe); and Sunday 7-8pm (just me and the CD library at this stage).

Monday: Trivia in the Trams at the Dickson Tradies, from 7.15pm. Free. Special subject: Yoof Culture.

I’m a complete goober as I’ll be at Top Gear LIVE in Sydney. 🙂

The infamous Sparrow Tour moutain bike race, which is part of the CORC club race series is on Sunday morning. Riders in the top categories will get to race a full lap of Sparrow Hill (ACT Forestry plantation, 10Km out of Queanbeyan on the Kings highway), covering virtually every bit of single track in the forest.

The couple of years have seen 200+ riders turn up for this event, including a few enthusiastic punters from Sydney!

More details on the CORC website:

and no-one, but no-one, wants to be a complete goober.
