On the weekend of St Patrick’s Day I imagine a lot will be going on in our fair city.

So let us know your pick of events, or indeed just what’s happening.

BTW, I know mention has been made of the ‘Lights, Canberra, Action’ film fest tonight at the NMA…at least one Riotactor is in a film there, I’m told.

Stick to cricket, Thumps.
Any cricket on this weekend? (Apart from the Test in Kaapstad).

crap

I keep forgetting this weekend is a long weekend and as such there’re all kinds of things going on for canberra day.

Protesting the bar?

I think you said that last time! :p

“Hoons Out of Civic”

I like that one!

Pity the protestors don’t include :

“Oppose Muslim Extremists Making Videos of Beheadings”

“Leunig & Ducks Out Of Euroa”

“Oppose Muslim Extremists Torturing/Killing Christian Aid Workers”

“Hoons Out Of Civic”

“No To Suicide Bombers”

Protest at Garema Place 1230 Saturday.
“Troops out of Iraq”
“Oppose Anti-Muslim Racism!”
“No To Howard’s Attacks On Civil Liberties”

I agree with JB’s comments on the last protest about multiple messages and think it may be best to just stick with one none the less I shall be attending as part of the Queer Bloc one of my Collective members organised.
Oh and I’d also argue, it should be “Oppose all racism!”
Other than that I shall be missing out on the frivolos fun my friends will be up to due to recovering from an illness 🙁

Shall enquire, is my Gran one of the only ppl in the bloody world that attend church on St Patrick’s Day? It is a day to celebrate the bringing of Catholicism to Ireland, not the bringing of alcohol to Ireland.
Not that I’m religous but it has been truly bastardised like Christmas etc.
Not having a go at anyone. Drink all you want, it’s just something I had to get off my chest.

It’s actually female nudity, not a bloke sticking his cock out and moving out both his pockets. Aforementioned female is pretty damn lovely in and out of clothing.

nudity – the elephant man…. the mind boggles.

Yep I’ll have a Guinness this arvo for sure. Ill try and find a Murphys as well although I havnt seen any in Canberra

I’ll be in Sydney….gotta visit the family.

Then I’ll be down the coast…good thing the in-laws have a house down there, otherwise I’d be shafted in “Little Canberra”.

Someone PLEASE have a drink for me tonight – preferably Guiness.

Don’t even think about trying to find somewhere to stay at the coast – I’ve been searching all week and it’s my opinion that most of the ACT will be down there.

I know this is DIY wotz-on in the ACT but I thought I’d mention this for the would-be coasters anyway.

Final of the Lights, Canberra, Action! short film festival. Showing of the 12 shortlisted entries, starts 8pm Friday 17th at the National Museum. Free entry.

The Races. Fri and Sun I think.
I read that “Fashions on the Field” is offering a first prize of a trip overseas!

Ooops – meant to say “yep, Elephant man is definately worth seeing, although people going for the copius nudity may be disappointed that it’s only in one scene for about a minute or two”.

having seen it last night, I can say it’s (8pm, Thursday-Saturday

way to leave us hanging, simto!

Isn’t there something on at north oval @ ANU on Saturday, something about Bands and Brumbies and a Crap beer that shall not be mentioned

Local theatre this weekend features ugly people and pretty people.

“The Elephant Man” at the ANU Arts Centre ($15 – $10 on wednesdays) gives you the life of John Merrick – the posters indicate there’s some nudity, and, having seen it last night, I can say it’s (8pm, Thursday-Saturday and Wed-Sat next week)

“Beauty and the Beast” at the Street Theatre ($20-$33) gives you ugliness and prettiness Disney style, with singing candlesticks and teacups. (8pm, Friday and saturday with 2pm matinee on saturday, and Wed-Sat for the next two weeks)
