If you’re going to the Trackside Festival tomorrow, make an effort to get there by 11am.

Canberra’s very own Hoodlum Shouts have been given the homour of kicking off the festival. Awarded the spot as part of Triple J’s unearthed competition, the band will set your pants on fire with their unique brand of infectious rock.

Let the Hoodlum Shouts help you knock the top off your first beer of the day.

Get out there and support local music y’all!

No worries Jim, it would have been company for me on the journey,so I wasn’t being totally altruistic. (Oh, and I’m going up on Saturday, coming back on Sunday, was what I should have said!)

I’ll be taking my pocket camera, not the Canon, if I get any good snaps I’ll send you a link.

National Welcome Home Parade for Iraq war Veterans
2pm Saturday ANZAC parade ending at the War Memorial.
Includes a F18 flyover at about 3pm

From the Defence media release:
More than 300 current and former ADF veterans and Defence civilians who have served on Operation CATALYST in Iraq from July 2003 to July 2009.

The welcome home parade will mark the conclusion of Operation CATALYST and will recognise the contribution of ADF and Defence personnel to the stabilisation and rehabilitation of Iraq.

The parade will feature Australia’s Federation Guard, the Band of the Royal Military College of Australia and the Royal Australian Navy Band, marching from Anzac Parade onto the Memorial’s Parade Ground. They will be followed by Navy, Army and Air Force contingents, Defence civilians and ex-ADF members in a march-past.

Michele – thanks for the comment! I might even be tempted to attend now 🙂

I don’t know if you’re taking the mickey or not there Jim, but I’ll take it at face value.

Every metalhead worth his/her salt should at least know of Budgie through their influence on the NWOBHM (if not through Metallica covers of Breadfan and Crash Course in Brain Surgery – back when Metallica were an actual heavy metal band).

Earth (legendary Melbourne metal band)

They can’t be too legendary if they share a name with what is already the legendary American band led by Dylan Carlson.

Also the name Black Sabbath used before their more famous incarnation

Marques in the Park, Patrick White Lawns @ The National Library. Sunday 10 to 3pm.

OMFG. Budgie. That’s so awesome it’s beyond words.

I don’t know if you’re taking the mickey or not there Jim, but I’ll take it at face value. I’m surprised anyone outside of the UK has heard of them to be frank. Burke Shelley is the only original member left, Budgie has been Burke plus others since it’s inception though. A “lame to fame” of mine is that my mate Pete Boot was their drummer for a couple of albums, (notabley “In for the Kill”, which I rate their best.)

I know it’s not Canberra, but it’s the nearest they are coming.

The classic Brit hard rock/metal band, Budgie, are playing Wollongong this Saturday night.

They are as old as me, so it may be your last chance to see them.
