I was just trawling the web, and came across this wonderful article

The guts of it is that in San Antonio, a sex shop has had to purchase a food permit to allow it to sell edible undergarments. O.M.G

Has the Slowhope govmit gotten onto that bandwagon yet? If not, they could make a killing, what with the ACT being the sex shop capital of Australia!

Are they GST-exempt if they’ve been worn but not licked?

Does this apply to all items that go into your mouth, or do you have to actually swallow?

GST is only papable on food it it’s pre-prepared, like a takeaway burger or a pre-made cake, or if it’s confectionery or the like.

So, GST would be payable if you intend to eat them in the shop, but if you intend to take them home to prepare for eating later then no, GST is not payable.

Hope this helps

🙂

Would GST be payable on this item (fresh foods are exempt). For example if you buy a live fish from the markets as food it is exempt from GST but if you buy it as a pet you are supposed to pay GST.
