Do you know anyone who worked at the Embassy Motel?

As we appear to be lurching to a new Prime Minister tonight here’s a question.

In January Chris Uhlman wrote an intriguing piece on the relationship between Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott.

Buried deep in the story was this ear twitcher:

One of the most intriguing also has a tangential relationship to the Embassy Motel, because that was where both Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard once lodged when Parliament was sitting.

Ms Gillard formed the view that nothing amused the Embassy staff more than putting her in a room next door to Tony Abbott. So, after a long day in Parliament, she would often see an unmistakable silhouette rocking down the corridor towards her as she fumbled for her keys.

So if you know someone who worked in the Embassy Motel, or worked there yourself, we’d love to hear from you about this.

Drop me a line: john@the-riotact.com

Also, leadership, discuss.

bd84, we all know that you wouldn’t have anything positive to say about an ALP leader even if it was the ghost of Menzies himself.

Same sht, different smell. Hopefully she will be gone by 2011 too.

For all his failings as a manager and communicator, I want to acknowledge that Rudd had a worthy vision, worthy plans and an honourable intention for what he wanted to achieve as PM. It is telling that in his farewell speech, he showed such emotion for some very small issues close to him. He worked hard, took responsibility and did what few others could. I think his legacy should not be simply as a failure, but as a politician who aimed high without reaching his potential.

Whilst it is admirable to aim high, people normally expect some tangible results. He was a big thinker but lacked the moral conviction to make the big decisions and stick with them when under pressure. His legacy will be that of the PM who crashed and burned. Boned by his own party even when the polls showed that an election was still winable.

As for Gillard, she is certainly electorally stronger. As a circuit breaker, she will blunt Abbott and the Liberal’s attacks. Whether she regains voters and gets Labor’s momentum back will rely on her ability to reorganise and rearticulate Labor’s policies. As someone so central to policy under Rudd, it will be difficult for her to stray too far and the Liberals will be relying on this. The days and weeks ahead should prove interesting.

As someone commented on a few days ago… Kevin 07, gone in 11! Except he couldn’t last that long. Good riddance I say, I never did trust him – I mean, how can you trust anyone that eats his earwax and continually licks his lips?

Looks like we’re set for Gi11ard in 2011!

Ugh. Imagine what the children would look like….

What? You mean the pending change in leadership doesn’t deserve its own thread? C’mon johnboy. Please create a new thread titled “First Woman Prime Minister? Hail or fail?”, or something.

re embassy: bad food at a wedding 21 years ago – never forgotten it. Don’t know about who slept next to whom.

re leadership, not since I was learning to drive have I done so many U-turns about whom to vote for in up and coming election. I’m dizzy.

They’ve got plenty of nice smart people. They just don’t seem very self-aware about who are the good ones and who are the duds.

Julia is pretty good though and she’ll whup Tony A’s lycraed butt which DESPERATELY needs it!

Ginger pinch face rat for Prime Minister. Only in Australia.

Gillard has balls. I think her PM tensions will give Abbot an interesting election.

Is Gillard the only other option Labor have to replace Dudd?

Geez, things are really looking up then!

The Liberals are just as bad! They’re all tools.

Watch out for Labor party members for a couple of days – they’ll probably still have bloody knives hidden behind their backs…

Bunch of tools…
