Hi all, hope you can help us out here.

For the time being we’re reliant on our awesome advertising partners to enable us to keep bringing you all the brilliant stuff you read on here every day. What we’d like to know is your thoughts on advertising in general and we’ve knocked up a short survey at the link below which we’d love if you could take a few mins to fill out.

Thanks in advance.

Aw man, now i have these haunting images of The Kelpie of Few Accomplishments starving and JB selling himself for money stuck in my head, all because I use an ad blocker.

I’m a terrible person.

Turn it off for this site, its really inoffensive (apart from the banner borking the menu).
[I ad block by default, but its easy to chose not to for good sites/ JB see themittani.com while adblocking, they have encouragement text]
And the ad for the small brewers beer festival is something I want to see. http://www.moshtix.com.au/v2/event/small-brewers-beer-festival/67753 bonus plug 🙂

…Anyone want a car for example?

Yes, I would like a ‘new’ car, IF it is yellow AND cooler than a Camry. An old Citroen would be acceptable. Just leave the keys under the mat.

In the meantime, I like to think *I* buy JB a lunch once a month. Or Barcham a dictionary. Kind of like sponsoring two children in Botswana. One of whom is already literate. (-:

Thanks for the feedback all, mostly fair comments – even arescarti42.. although yes you are a terrible person, I expect to see your membership signup soon.

Poetix & LWSCHP, we have not at all forgotten our lovely and erudite premium subscribers but i’ve focussed this one on advertising because thats where most of our meagre revenue comes from. My goal is 10,000 members. We can really give away some very very cool stuff from our advertisers then.. Anyone want a car for example?

Aeek, Pork Hunt & evil_kitten, we’re working on fixes for a few of the cracks that are appearing in our old code like the drop down menu issues and broken members pics that for whatever reason aren’t universally broken. Like all things however its a catch 22 between spending our meagre resources on ramen noodles to feed ourselves, hunting down broken things in old code base, or updating the entire thing to something that works better.. like an old car you love, sometimes its cheaper to just buy a new one and work with with a few issues until its delivered.

To the other suggestions from reddogincan, innovation & bimbogeek; thank you. keep them coming.. whilst this survey is focussed on advertising we’re not putting down all of our other plans. Just prioritising.

Maybe discourage advertisers from booking advertorial unless their product is so new and different that it can only be explained in a few paragraphs. Everyone in the industry loves advertorial and it’s sometimes possible to craft an interesting story around a product or brand but there’s no point gumming up the site with advertorial where the content should be, only to have the readers backlash against three paragraphs of waffle.

You’ve had some successful advertorial though, so yay team.

Ah jeez, does this man you’re not reliant on my subscription after all? Now I don’t feel so special any more. 🙂

I don’t like having to adblock your advertising so I can access the “I want to…” menu @ top right.

Also, what’s with all the broken premium user pics?

Advertising is fine, unless it gets in the way – for example the “Do you know which half of your advertising is working” banner on here. My “I want to…” drop down menu goes behind it and I cannot access anything except the first choice.

I also hate video ads that have sound and start automatically!

“we’re reliant on our awesome advertising partners to enable us to keep bringing you all the brilliant stuff you read on here every day.”

I’m pretty sure it is the commenters’ witty diatribes that attract the eyeballs for you to flog off to advertisers.

So where is the merchandise? Surely flogging a few t-shirts, mugs, and caps would bring in some cash.

Not a bad survey. However, it doesn’t ask for ideas as to what RA could do to promote or expand itself.

For example, it could have theme days (like Bad Parking Monday) such as Bad Driving Tuesday, Bad Nature Strips Wednesday, Dodgy Work Practices Thursday and Bizarre Clothing Friday. A few free bumper stickers wouldn’t go astray too (eg, “How’s My Parking http://the-riotact.com“).

And if you wanted to diversify from local news you could provide an alternative to sites such as Allclassifieds etc.

Aw man, now i have these haunting images of The Kelpie of Few Accomplishments starving and JB selling himself for money stuck in my head, all because I use an ad blocker.

I’m a terrible person.

Who cannot (and have not been able to, for months) update their avatar. Having said that, I will do the survey and renew my subscription…
