Dodgy Fuel in Kippax

I have a novated lease vehicle which has a Caltex Star Card for fuel purchases. I always fill up at the Caltex station in Kippax as it’s very close to my house and very convenient. On Fri the 9th I filled up with 95 octane fuel at about 8:00 in the morning. 10 minutes later the car lost power and the check engine light came on and stayed on. The car ran like a dog so I took it to dealer as it’s still under warranty, they found the cause to be dirty fuel. The same dealer serviced it two months ago and replaced the fuel filter at that time. $400 later the car runs OK. I called Caltex to complain as I still have all the receipts for fuel purchases. They said they would investigate the issue and if they found fault they would reimburse all costs. I don’t like my chances that they will admit liability even though I have receipts for the fuel (always at the same site) and the mechanics report.

My question is, has anyone else experienced dirty fuel from Caltex in Kippax, particularly around the morning of the 9th?

Has anyone else complained about dirty fuel and had a response?

As a result I am thinking of cancelling my Caltex card and switching to Shell.

Wha….? wha….?

FB, Australia has a national system for regulating and inspecting the quality of fuels. This is where you go to register a complaint about fuel quality: http://environment.gov.au/atmosphere/fuelquality/complaint.html

I’d suggest you follow up this way, as well as with the company involved.

I hope you kept a litre or so of the fuel.

You will need to get it tested by an independent lab. You will also need to provide a sample of the fuel to Caltex for them to test in their own lab.

You won’t get very far claiming dirty fuel without said fuel to test/confirm against.

I can get a different card but you will find most lease companies, mine included, charge a monthly fee for each card.

I’m sure you must drive past other Caltex servos, use one of them.

I could use other stations but if Caltex don’t admint liability when there is undeniable evidence then I will simply take my custom elswhere. Simple as that!

If they adimt there was an issue with the fuel at that location at that time then I will accept that and continue to fill up there.

Rather than complain, I’d like to take this opportunity to recognise one servo that does the right thing by me. Background is, I am running a fairly heavily tuned turbo motor, at 22psi, and fuel quality is super important, don’t have as big of a margin for error as factory tunes.

Caltex Kaleen’s 98 Octane vortex has always worked great for me.

Yeah, avoid the BP at Macquarie. Late last year: Weird engine splutter noise, engine light came on. I think it actually relates to the footings for apartments being built next door.

I have a novated lease and I have a fuel card with 3 different companies.

All i know is that Caltex Kippax has one of the dodgiest looking register jockeys I have ever seen- could there be a link?

Ignore that last. I was thinking of Macquarie shops. I always forget Jamison is in Macquarie.

Didn’t the servo in Macquarie shut down about 15 years ago?

I don’t know about Kippax, but there was a news story a few days ago about bad fuel at the BP servo in Macquarie, apparently caused by flooding after the recent heavy rain.
