Does anybody know when the DFO in Fyshwick is going to open?

By heinous - 22 June 2008 26

http://www.dfo.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=86&Itemid=30 says that it will open in 2008 and a job advertisement that I found for a manager in an unnamed shop at http://mycareer.com.au/jobs/canberra-act/retail/store-department-management/6264938+store+manager+and+casuals.aspx says that the job starts in mid June 2008. The complex has been under construction for some time now and looks pretty close to being finished. Does anyone know if there are going to be any good shops in their?

What’s Your opinion?

Well, we bloody-well ARE a million, if you count all the folk in the surrounding region. I mean, there’s wagga…

It’s a shame we can’t have a scaled-down version, like the old Moore Park place. Driving to Sydney to get a feed of meatballs and load up the ute with great stuff is not the fun it once was. and the carpark at that Rhodes place is a shocker.

Incidentally, the Sydney DFO is on the way to Ikea…

I’d settle for half a store for Canberra / Queanbeyan.

IKEA has a policy of only locating where the market is one million people or more.

You obviously never flew into the old Hong Kong airport. I clearly remember being able to see out of the plain and through the window of an appartment where a guy was ironing clothes and watching telly.

Yep, Hong Kong is a good example of building around flight paths and runways. Doesn’t mean its a safe scenario.

A time when the economy is slowing and the government attempting to cut spending is not a good time to be launching large business ventures that rely on discretionary spending by consumers.

Still, it’s their funeral.

Was dragged into the DFO in Melbourne city on the weekend – and it’s point of difference to Brand Depot is the quality of the goods sold. Brand Depot is a depot without brands.

AFAIK DFO has arrangements with suppliers that stops them from setting up in a rivals location (like Brand Depot).

If Brand Depot does close down then the shed will quickly become the fright hub it was always planned to be – and the Snow’s will be guarding their 24hr landing rights even more fiercley.

still can’t believe the buildings going up around the airport, what happens when the pilots can’t see the runway for the buildings?

Worse than that the buildings that have gone up actually do have the potential to cause a serious accident – the problems with the hangar near the touch down area on Runway 35 is a prime example:

I’ve never been out to the Brand Depot but those I’ve spoken to who have seem to be seriously underwhelmed by what’s on offer. Is Canberra really big enough to host all the retail outlets we’re getting?

“I wonder if Brand Depot will survive?”

It seems to be on its last legs even before DFO opens up.

Interesting question. It must be soon, there was a big job ad in this weekend’s paper for some big cosmetics shop needing staff. Maybe they need staff before it opens to set up the shops, unpack the boxes etc.

It’s a DFO, so if you’ve visited the one at Homebush, you’ll know what shops they’ll have. I wonder what happened to the original “big box” plan?

Traffic will get worse. and I wonder if Brand Depot will survive?
