Liberal Senator Gary Humphries is up in arms over a lack of Green Corps projects in Canberra (a sort of environmental Hitler Youth complete with uniforms).

Green Corps was an initiative of the previous Howard Government received overwhelming community support helping to repair walking tracks, weed removal, habitat protection and coast care.

“The ACT is one of only two states and territories without an active Green Corps activity,” said Senator Gary Humphries.

“I had the great joy of launching several Green Corps here in the ACT and it’s devastating to see the program die in the tail thanks to Labor.

“Green Corps promoted practical environmentalism for the ACT at its absolute best.

“This highly successful and valuable program has been run down by Labor and information obtained through the Senate Estimates process has confirmed that the ACT is without a single active project.

One has to wonder if the ACT’s functionally full employment rate has a bit to do with a lack of glassy eyed young things wanting to donate their labour to landcare projects.

But the real question is do you care?
