I know there have been discussions on this topic before however there has been nothing recently. Can anyone give me some feedback about Tara Dog Boarding in Pialligo? I am considering using them at Christmas and would appreciate feedback on any recent experiences people may have had?

We used them once and were not impressed with the facilities. Of late, we have been using Rover’s Retreat situated north east of Canberra. They have fantastic grounds and do pickup/drop off to/from Canberra. We are very pleased with their service.

Try Don’t Fret Pert. They charge quite a bit per day, although you dog will be well looked after. All you then need to do is strike up a relationship with the dog sitter and eventually by-pass the company. Sneaky but worth it.

I have a cat – and I know cats are not the same as dogs – but when I went away last Christmas I hired a cat sitting (yup! they exist) to come to my house once a day and feed her/play with her/cuddle her etc. It worked out cheaper than putting her in cat boarding and the sitter almost doubles as a house minder too as they bring in your mail/bin/turn lights on etc for you. I know these kind of services exist for dogs too and they take them for a walk each day. I obviously can’t recommend a good dog sitting service, but I think you’d find it worthwhile 🙂

I’ve always found Tara to be great– the staff are friendly, the kennels are better than what you expect (heated in winter, cooled in summer) and if your dog has special requirements (as mine did being older and needing special diet etc) this is accommodated.

Only thing that I found is that during school holiday / public holiday seasons, they got booked out quickly.

I’ve recommended them to many of my friends and family who also speak highly for their services.

Hope this helps.

We used to use them, however earlier this year we had our dogs booked in for a few days (we have 2 dogs) and usually they share a kennel. When we picked them up we discovered that our dogs had been put into a kennel with four other dogs, so there were a total of six altogether. We were advised that this was standard practice. This made us wonder how many other times our dogs had been moved previously, as when we dropped them off they got put into a twin share kennel which is where we assumed they would be sleeping

We were not happy about this as one of dogs is a rescue dog and already has some anxiety issues. After we complained we basically got told by Tara’s too bad, so sad. We won’t be using them again. There are a number of kennels around Canberra that are of a better standard and are cheaper as well.
