Today I went to a Cafe which called My Bone Cafe with my little 4 legged friend. I had a sandwich and a cup of coffee which were very nice and my little friend had a little bowl of doggycinno and bowl chicken with rice. We both really enjoyed our afternoon there. You should have a try too….

[Ed. Can anyone list other cafe’s that will let you have your dog. Two that come to mind for me are black pepper cafe in belconnen, and the cafe at the yarralumla nursery which actually has a seperate menu for your pooch]

I had been looking for such cafes as i have recently moved in here.
Thanks for the suggestions 🙂

i would prefer to take a dog for a walk rather that creating a mess in a restaurant :p

It’s a dog cafe we are talking about here.

No they are not. They are cafes licenced to serve to humans, not dogs.

And you’re right Danman, the beauty of choice means I can choose not to refresh myself at such establishments.

Besides thats the beauty of choice – some owners will take their dog here, some wont.

and I’m the same, would never be an inconsiderate owner that pushes my dogs onto others.

It’s a dog cafe we are talking about here.

Barely pushing your dog on anyone if someone turns up to a dog cafe and is not expecting (collective gasp) dogs

I own 2 dogs Nemo, and I’m the same, would never be an inconsiderate owner that pushes my dogs onto others.

I own a mini-fox terrier x teacup chihuhua. I couldn’t think of anything more absurd than taking her to a DOG cafe…the mind boggles.

28 hr week… sheet – I wish.. .more like 38 hours…

I agree Adza. Im a dog owner, however there is no way I would go to a cafe where they allow dogs.

Meconium, I am a qualified chef, yes, that is true, however, I no longer work in the trade.

As anyone in hospitality in Canberra knows, there is sweet F*CK ALL money in it for employees.

At the dizzy heights of my career, I was getting 38 000 for a 52 hourish week. Now I get 52 000 for a 28 hour week… Makes sence to me where I am at now.

Of course if Mrs Danman and I were ever to move from Canberra, I would not be at a loss for a job and neither would she, being a RN.

Physically superior wife was my comment in jest in the rise in percentage of domestic violence that is instigated by the female party of the dispute.

At least I know where NOT to go now … thanks guys. I’ll be stuffed if I want to be having a coffee with the place full of sniffling canines, some of which are not looked after, flea-ridden or begging for food.

Physically superior?! wtf does that mean?

Also, I always thought you were a cook Danman? Do you do this somewhere within the APS?

girlfriends a lurker eh Danman ?

I creatively used GF as I am married and have no extra marital relations therefore providing a joke that can not be misconstrued by my physically superior wife 🙂

hook, line, sinker 🙂

Annual leave is not just for holidays. Annual leave is for anything you want. Whether it is a day or a week, as long as its approved, it doesn’t matter. Its just that within the PS you are entitled to other categories of leave under if you meet that criteria.

girlfriends a lurker eh Danman ?

LOL – I walked into my bedroom with a pig under my arm and said “This is the dog I ravish when you’re not around.” My gf said “Thats a pig.” I said “I was not talking to you”

Disclaimer – Characters in the abovementioned joke are fictional and any resemblence to any person, pig or dog, dead or alive, is strictly a coincidence.

I once took a dog to King O’Malley’s. She has moved to Orange, and we’re not really on talking terms anymore. 😉

Oh and we have other leave – which is basically miscellaneous – but annual leave is for holidays.

My boss would say, Im sorry but within your agencies guidelines you have to take berevement leave.

The Issue I was hinting at was that public servants in my department have access to numerous types of leave and that it is not the purpose by definition of my agency of Annual leave to be used to attend matters of an emotional nature, for my reasons stated above. It is berevement leave that is intended for thispurpose.

Once again I can not say that this is government wide, but this is how it is in my agency.

Snahons_scv6_berlina3:19 pm 22 Feb 08

hmmmm, so if you went to your boss and said I need to take a annual leave day because my dog died your boss would say, oh im sorry no you must remain at work ?

The issue I was hinting at was that public servants have access to numerous types of leave already and that by broadening the scope of the current limitations surrounding the current leave arrangements – it makes a (further) mockery of the public service mentality of entitlement.

Snahons, In my department, due to the operational nature of the work, we can not take annual leave at a whim.

Annual leave has to be planned and booked a month in advance.

I could take annual leave if I knew a month before my dog died, but this may not be the case.

In our department, we are strongly advised to take berevement leave for unforseeable occasions where you are in no emotional state to be at work.

This is so as to justify on paper why we have left on a whim and left the rest of our team in the dirt, and possible compromise to the work we are undertaking at the time.

Granted I have been at my current place of emply for 3 years now and have only had to have 2 days berevement leave.

besides – my understanding of annual leave is intended for extended use to facilitate holidays etx, not for a day off here and there. Thats what Flex is for…. Oh and I have to book that in as well.

Probably not the case across the board, but I can only speak for me and my experiences.

Hence why I think berevement leave should include family pets under its criteria (In my department at least)

Snahons_scv6_berlina12:52 pm 22 Feb 08

Danman,
Would your suggestion extend to cats, fish, ponies, ants, snakes, spiders, mice, and any other pet one has ?

Im mean c’mon, typical PS mentality.. just take a freaking annual leave day like the rest of the world..

No – just generalising…. which I took offence to.

You really don’t get that I’m not talking about you idiots do you ?

Danman, agree 100%. And in fact, in the olden days, I DID use personal leave to take my little man to sydney to have his eye fixed. And no one dared to deny it, or maybe those making the judgement loved their dogs too.

Thanks for the warning.

*avoids it like the plague*

And even if a pet owner is insecure, a show off or just thinks of a pet as a fashion accessory, if they are looking after the pet properly who the hell are you to tell them what they should or shouldn’t be doing.

haha poodle boy.

Say the funk what you want, I knew in posting that someone would take the piss, but I’m a secure person.

I do not need approval of the masses to make myself feel better.

Samoyed x poodles and schnauzer x poodle if anyone else wants to know.

I have my pets because I love them, not to show the world. I think bereavement leave in the APS should be extended to pet owners (To a point).

I know I would be devastated if one of my “boys” died… because they are family as much as immediate family IMO.

How do you know having your dog with you at a Cafe is about ‘being seen’? Maybe these people just value having their dogs around and like to spoil them a little while they are having a coffee. Seems reasonable to me.

good on ya maelinar, right. you have a behaviour and so it is thus implicitly the only correct one and all others become deviants. who made you mr fucking president god?

you walk you dog to the shops but don’t stop for coffee. so? i walk my dog to shops and i do stop for a bevvy [on occasions]. i’m bending over, come take me…

i walk my dog because she needs it, i need it (god, do i ever!) and if it coincides with an opportunity to catch up with folks i like to spend time with, she is happy panting at our feet while we drink and natter, and i get her water if she needs it. nothing about ‘being seen’ – just being. try it sometime…

haha poodle boy.

I’m not insecure, infact I’m very liberal. First off, I think pet ownership should not be about ‘being seen’, but about a mutual relationship between human/animal, and secondly, I think that people who use their pets as fashion items should be neutered for the betterment of society.

I realise the natural contradiction in that I own a breed that is purpose bred. I don’t show my dog, and I purchased him because I have always loved the breed, rather than the purpose for which WHT have been bred.

Vb weilder ? LOL i laugh at your presumptious words.

Dont judge me – you do not even know me.

I take my poodle x’s for 3 to 5 walks/jogs/runs a week.

Sometimes on Ngunnawal Ridge, other times around Yerrabi pond.
Oh and I drive an EB falcon, so what ?
I am sure you would too if it was given to you.

Whats it to you anyway ?

You sound insecure when putting other people down for their behaviour/actions/social habits.

Ingeegoodbee2:40 pm 21 Feb 08

I don’t know Mael. My dog is a near constant companion. I enjoy his company whether its out and about, going on a bike ride or for a run, at work or sitting about drinking beers. He’s definately not a show pony but he sure as hell is better company that a lot of people I know.

I think the consensus falls into two threads here, there’s those who walk their dogs because they like walking their dogs, and then there’s those who want to be seen out, with their dogs.

Showponies. You don’t deserve pets.

la mente torbida1:33 pm 21 Feb 08

how about an outdoor smoking area you can take dogs and set off fireworks?

…You’d rather spend time with a small chunk of a Mars Bar?? 😉

Babies cry and scream, smokers broadcast smoke in all directions, dogs sit under the table and think dog thoughts.
I know which of the above I’d rather share a space with!

@danman – and how often have you done that VB weilder ?

Just to set the story straight, I generally walk my West Highland White Terrier, Anzac, every night. At no time have I ever considered stopping for a coffee.

I have walked him to the shops, brought beer, and walked home though (yes S4anta, that was your Guinness I’m talking about).

@Ant.
Dont know. But one suspects that it might similar to the good ol’ smoking debate/crying babies. That being;
Some people might just simply prefer to enjoy a day out in the sunshine without strange dogs being near them doing what dogs do, or being fouled up by leashes and other random paraphenalia. personally, provided the pooch hangs under the table and behaves itself I am all for it. That being said the pups in my family stay at home when we are out (unless walking to shops etc) buts that just how we do things.

Mael, its ok to hate dogs, and on occasion their owners, where justified, but do not tar us all with the same brush.

If I wanna take my staffy in my EB falcon for a walk around yerrabi pond then to a cafe for a cold bevvie for me and a water hor him then where lies the problem ?

Am I all of a sudden homosexual because i refuse to tie my dog to a post while I go off and have a bevvy ?

idiot.

So normal dogs will infest everyone with the Black Dog Plague, but seeing eye dogs won’t?

@Ant
Pets in licensed venue areas, actually contravene ACT Health regulations, and OH&S for workers. Seeing eye dogs (not your ugly mother in law) are a different matter. Not a whinge as to not have them, just explaining why folks.

@ant – because its a poncy wankfest by self-righteous a$$holes with carrots up their bums and plums in their mouths – the inventors of cappucino, and Bondi handbags.

I bet they don’t even walk their dogs to the cafe, they drive their dog in their Nissan Pajero’s there after dropping little Evahn and Bridgeit off to school.

If it were any more gay, I’d be singing Freddy Mercury songs.

Why can’t people take their dogs to cafes, especially outdoor ones? The yanks are a lot more civilised about dogs than we are. Over there you’ll see dogs at eateries, shops, you name it. And no one’s dying of the Black Dog Plague or whatever it is. Are toddlers and babies less germ-infested than dogs?!

la mente torbida10:44 am 21 Feb 08

bees & co @ yarralumla shops also serve dog treats

Oh and next door at Edgars they seem to be dog-friendly too, although they don’t have a specific doggie beer on the menu.

Pulp Kitchen at Ainslie has some kind of meaty item on the menu for your handbag dogs.

OT but at the top of Mt Taylor someone has secured a stainless steel dog bowl to the bench up there so your pooches can have a drink when they get to the top as well. I usually carry a fold up nylon dog bowl but this is a good idea.

There used to be a garden shop in Kippax I think – near old mama rias, they had a coffee shop inside and was dog friendly.

and the post will be one about canine obesity and why isnt the Government doing anything about this insidious development in the ACT populus.

Stupid is as stupid does.

That’s all I have to say about that.
