Centenary charity has become a confused beast.

But the Chief Minister is trying to rally people behind the seriously good idea of “Dollars for Dili”:

The Dollars for Dili project directly helps thousands of young people in Dili – Canberra’s friendship city – by providing improved sanitation and health facilities. The facilities encourage more young girls to attend school, gain better access to education and increase employment opportunities.

“The Dollars for Dili project highlights that basic facilities like toilets at school, which Canberrans take for granted, simply aren’t that common and that the lack of facilities means many young girls simply can’t go to school,” the Chief Minister said.

The next project funded by the charity would be a second toilet facility at the Fatuhada Primary School, in the Timor-Leste capital, with the cost expected to be approximately $21,000.

There’s a website to donate on.

I just arrived in Dili to do some volunteer work today, and I’d say it’s a worthy cause too!

Having visited Dili, this is a worthy cause.

The corruption is preventing the economic development, and charities play an important role.
