The Canberra Times has a strange story, hinting at much and saying little directly, about the launch of the multicultural festival and the resignation of Canberra arts impressario Dominic Mico from his long held position of artistic director of the festival.

It sounds like the launch was a bit of a fizzer too, but conditions are certainly difficult.

The organisation of this years MCF has been incompetent to say the least.

Mr Mico is a curious fellow – very self-serving. Anyone remember the TAU Theatre in Braddon? Government funded – and Mico used it as a fiefdom, putting on his own shows at public expense, and cutting out other comers altogether. A very strange set of attributes for a community festival director. Only in Canberra.

I was at the launch, and it wasn’t that bad; the drummers (Drum Fantasy, I think they’re called?) were incredible!

And the Festival’s loss is Tuggeranong’s gain: it’s good to have Dom at TAC.
