Don't be an April Fool; do turn your clocks back

Workin' Gear gets into the April Fools' Day spirit.

Here are two community service announcements that will help you to get through the events of the coming weekend unscathed and on time: firstly, today is April Fools’ Day; and secondly, Daylight Savings comes to an end early on Sunday morning.

In terms of the latter, all you need to know is that we all need to put our clocks back by one hour at 3am on Sunday. I guess making the most of our last two evenings of sunshine till October is something to consider, too.

As for the former, whether it’s small children hiding whoopee cushions under your favourite spot on the sofa or cunning media outlets publishing fake news (wait, doesn’t that happen every week??!!), we’re all at risk of looking like fools each April 1st until 12 PM.

We are not-so-pleased to report that Belconnen has not yet succeeded ACT, and there are no new fines for non-compliant letterboxes.

The RiotACT has also learnt of a prank in the works at workwear retailer Workin’ Gear (yep, alliteration and repetition working for us there), but wonders how many shoppers will be scratching their heads and how many will simply admire the move as a timely gimmick.

The retailer ran a “Buy a left boot and get the right boot free,” sale, and issued the below media release.

Have you been pranked on April Fools’ Day in the past? Got any tricks up your sleep for tomorrow? Please let us know in the comments.

MEDIA RELEASE
Buy a left boot and get the right boot free.
Workin’ Gear Boot SALE!
What a bargain!

If you have two feet and are sick of having to buy two shoes, then Workin’ Gear has the deal for you. Now you can buy a right boot and get the left boot FREE!
Drop by our super store at 51 Kembla Street Fyshwick and try on a left or right boot today! Hurry sale ends 12 noon Saturday, 1 April.
Jeremy Archer, Workin’ Gear owner states: “For far too long customers have been been getting a raw deal, so this week we are turning the tables, we won’t be selling pairs of boots but instead we will be selling single boots with the right or left boot thrown in for free.”
Jeremy and the Workin’ Gear staff are available for comment, photos or interview from the Working’ Gear Super Store, 51 Kembla St Fyshwick.

Thanks for the heads up Charlotte.

I hope it is OK to say this but I am tired of waiting up until 3.00am to do this, year in, year out.

If do it at 11.00pm tonight when I turn back the covers will anyone know? Will I be in breach of any regulation?

This is Canberra you know; we’re different.

It is bad luck to put a calendar of a new year up before the old year has finished. So I presume it would also be bad luck if you changed the clocks before 2AM/3AM.

So far, so good.

The end of daylight saving this year has coincided nicely with the colder weather.
