An 18-year-old Dickson man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after attempting to rob a store in Dickson last night (Wednesday, September 7).

Police will allege that the man entered the Dickson Liquor Store about 8.15pm, producing a knife and threaten the shop attendant while demanding money. The shop attendant refused and the alleged offender fled the store empty handed.

A short time later, police located the alleged offender in a house in Dickson. He was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House.

The man will be charged with attempt aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon.

Barry: “No Josh. Nick off.”

Thief: “Well screw you Bazza! You’re lucky I don’t cut you mate!”

Cops: “Can you identify the thief?”

Barry: “Yeah, it was Josh. You know, same guy as last time?”

Cops: “Ah, no worries then.”

Like any business the cops have their regulars, they just go down the list.

What he said, as per this article ( http://the-riotact.com/hand-holding-for-canberras-worst-crime-families-with-poll/37324 ) 12 families are responsible for 25% of thefts in Canberra, I’m sure the police have a solid list of people and their known hangouts for most common offences.

How did they know which house he was lurking in?

At a guess the store has CCTV. Cops viewed CCTV, recognised offender as he is well known to police. Police then went and knocked on his door. Average Joe’s don’t do this sort of thing. The type of people that do this stuff are already well known to police and repeat offenders.

And still on the street because they tell such sad, sad stories to the judges.

I hope this doesn’t become a trend among shop owners in the ACT. If it does then robbers will have to resort to actual violence in order to get their way.
