Construction in the ACT has reached the point where Phillipino visitors to the city make “Tsk Tsk” noises when they walk past our construction sites.
My own unscientific, but reasonably widespread, walking past suggests the eskies are open and the booze is flowing (mostly bacardi breezers) on many construction sites by 10am.
But the ABC Reports the Master Builders Association doesn’t think we need any changes.
Gerry Howard from the Master Builders Association admits there are problems with a small number of recalcitrant operators but he says there is no need for drastic action.
“Some areas need to be tweaked and some areas need some legislation changes,” he said.
“We believe recalcitrant builders who don’t do the right thing should be fined by the registrar. As I said it’s a very small percentage of our builders that don’t do the right thing.”
The Legislative Assembly is considering increased oversight of the industry.
