The Liberals’ Steve Dozspot is asking what the go is with asbestos in Canberra’s schools after the closing of Taylor Primary:

ACT Shadow Education Minister Steve Doszpot today called on Chris Bourke to explain the safeguards he has in place to protect students from asbestos, following the closure of Taylor Primary School after structural damage revealed asbestos problems throughout the school.

“The community needs to know which other Canberra schools contain asbestos, and needs to know what the government is doing to ensure these schools are properly maintained to avoid a repeat of this situation.

“Parents also need assurances from Chris Bourke that Taylor Primary will not be permanently closed. We know this government has form in telling the public it won’t close schools and then doing the very opposite.

“I call on Chris Bourke to confirm this school will not be closed long-term, and to outline the safeguards he has in place to avoid the closure of further schools due to asbestos,” Mr Doszpot concluded.
