The ABC is reporting that Chief Justice Higgins has spat the dummy over comments by Richard Refshauge, the ACT’s Director of Public Prosecutions, that “the work of his office seems to be met with apparent antipathy” by the Supreme Court Justices.

Chief Justice Higgins is threatening to refuse to list trials for hearing until such time as all criticism of his court is withdrawn.

While I believe Justice Higgins is motivated by the purest of intentions I will never forget sitting on the back of a bus (at least 10 years ago) listening to two released felons rejoicing in their good fortune to have appeared before him, and in the light sentences they had received, which saw them back on the street at that time. Shortly after their reminiscence these gentlemen moved up to the front of the bus to grope young women.

“Chief Justice Higgins is threatening to refuse to list trials for hearing until such time as all criticism of his court is withdrawn.”

Isn’t that like an illegal strike – maybe he should be taken to the industrial court.

After being on a jury for two weeks during a case that Terry reined over, I have nothing but absolute contempt for the prick.

I wish he’d move to Queensland!

He should have just got Gareth to go round and sort him out.

So he can slate all and sundry under the protection of his Court (I’ll never forget him saying that Police lawfully executing a search warrant behaved like ‘bank robbers’), but the slightest airing of any discontent with him and his ilk is met with a reply like this. Absolutely pathetic, indeed quite juvenile.

The judicial equivalent of taking his bat and ball and going home.

The truth hurts sometimes Terry.

Little terrence has long had a reputation for thrashing criminals with a limp lettuce leaf and being out of touch with reality

Don’t we have some form of free speech enshrined in our lovely human rights act? I think the DPP and any other canberran have the right to an opinion.

I don’t see how acting like a 14 year old girl huffing and puffing really helps me side with the judge on this one.
