Thanks to the magic of YouTube, and the daring of Chas Egan, we can see that it is possible to do some pretty good surfing in Canberra when the stormwater drains are running full.

Note to younger readers: If you do decide to do this you didn’t get the idea from us OK?

Very very cool, but he used the wrong music. Los Capitanes already wrote a tune for just this sort of thing: Surfin’ A.C.T..

I was told of someone kayaking on one of the ovals around the Weston/stirling/rivett area when they had their last big rainstorm a month or 2 ago.

I’ve always wanted to boogie-board from the Top of the storm-water drain starting near Fadden Pines down to the end of Tuggeranong, but it goes against also wanting to live at least until i’m 30.

The boy knows how to surf! That was good!

That’s awesome.

yeah, that guy’s a pretty cool actuary. video was good but i hate the way the credits run on for so long on videos like this, it makes you anticipate something at the end that never comes.

the mawson drain is an excellent idea.

HEY CHAS (or anyone else with balls) – Do the next one lying down, surfing at the mouth of the drainage pipe underneath Mawson Dr near southlands!

Nice work Chas.. the dengue fever contracted from the filthy stormwater must have been worth it

lol, that actulary is pretty cool 😀

That is actually very cool. I was skeptical.

He’s my new hero. I did go out in the storms and take some photos and footage of the storm drains, and I thought it would be cool do get my boogie board and go down the mawson drain…
I’m sorry i didnt get out to the turtle bowl though…

i want to know how he got off, haha. was it a crash and burn typed affair? or something more graceful?

excellent.

anything involving a threat to ones mortality is to be encouraged.

too much safety in this world.
