It’s been quite some time since Aussie metal legeds Dreadnaught have graced the stages of Canberra, so it was with great anticipation that I grabbed my ticket and headed off to the Basement in Belconnen in Canberra for what I hoped was to be a night of great bands, great music, and a great night.

I was not disappointed.

Hot on the heels of their latest offering (a self-titled album), Dreadnaught joined forces with local bands Spoil, Forgery and Johnny Roadkill to put on one hell of a show.

Johnny Roadkill opened the night with a stunning set of balls-out hard rock. Right from the start these guys nailed it. Good songs, and great execution resulted in a very entertaining set, full of variety.

Great band to start off the night!

After a short break, Forgery took to the stage with their 80’s inspired thrash metal. For a 3-piece band, these guys certainly pumped out a big sound. Whilst their style is not for everyone, they delivered a faultless performance that the majority seemed to like.

Next up were local favourites Spoil. Very impressive set from these boys. Hard and heavy music played very tightly, rhythmic riffs that you can groove to, and song good songs with catchy sing-along vocal parts. These boys had everyone going!

In a more comical moment of Spoil’s set, their guitarist stepped up to the mic and called out to the crowd that he’s got 2 words for us……..”Get It On!!!” Ahh………I’m pretty sure that’s 3 words.

Never the less, it was a brilliant and entertaining set.

Finally, the band that we were all here to see took to the stage, the mighty Dreadnaught!

They boys came out to a crowd that was well and truely warmed up by now and were hungry for more.

Dreadnaught then proceeded to show why they are one of the best metal acts in Australia! With shredding guitars, killer vocals and thumping bass and drums, Dreadnaught was on song! With a set mixed with a lot of new songs, combined with the better known tracks from the Dreadnaught back-catalogue, these guys capped off a brillient set and a brillient night overall.

Big thanks must go out to the organisers of the night, Mudd Promotions who did a fantastic job in getting a band of Dreadnaught’s calibre to come to Canberra in the first place, but also for putting on such an excellent and entertaining line-up of bands!

I’d promised the SPOIL bassist that I’d be there, but it turned out the Brumbies were playing the same night. Sounds like I missed a great gig. Bummer duuuuude.

Lol Nambucco…

Spoil Raaawwwwwk.

Nice work lads…

I’ve never had a problem with the floor or the toilets at the Basement. I can only imagine that you must suffer from some form of OCD, you poor thing.

How sticky was the floor, and how vile were the toilets? Any review of an ‘event’ at the Basement needs to comment on these facts.

Go back to the country club for your cucumber sandwiches!
