You wouldn’t know it to see it today, but 19 Tanderra Crescent in Ngunnawal comes from humble origins, starting as a random collection of magazine clippings in a scrapbook.

For the current owners, it was a high-school love story.

“We met in Year 7 and our relationship started,” one of them says.

“Come Year 10, we started planning our dream home. I remember going through old magazines and cutting out little bits of home inspiration for myself, fantasising about what our future home might look like.”

Fast forward some years, and the now-married couple had finally put enough pennies away to buy their first block together. That block was 19 Tanderra Crescent in Ngunnawal.

The scrapbook then came out again and thanks largely to the husband’s construction company, they set about putting the pieces together and making their dream home a reality.

The result boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms and six parking spaces and was built in 1999 before the couple heavily renovated it again eight years ago.

After 25 years, they say it’s time for new beginnings and a change to a rural lifestyle near Murrumbateman.

“There are so many things we love about it, but our favourites would have to be the open-plan living, the parents retreat, the kitchen/alfresco space and the views,” one of them says.

“From watching the sunrise to the reflections of the sun setting and then the moon rising, the outdoor entertaining space is at the heart of our home.”

The details are exquisite, with everything from recycled Tharwa Bridge timber to a slate floor, a luxurious jacuzzi to a quaint fish pond woven into the property’s design.

The crescendo is found upstairs in the master suite, with its vaulted ceilings, wide-open windows, timber floors, and free-standing bath. An ensuite and walk-in wardrobe are both attached and equally expansive and crisply designed, all serving as the ideal parents’ retreat.

McGrath Canberra real estate agent Kris Hellier says he’s never been in another house with such an endless list of highlights.

“Anytime you do buy off a builder, you know you’re going to get top quality. Every little detail is just spot on.”

Kris says his favourite part has to be the sprawling outdoor entertainment area with its own rotating built-in barbecue, as well as the property’s proximity to the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club.

“I’m just gobsmacked. The space, the location, the segregated living but also integrated to be open so everyone can come together, and the view. It doesn’t matter who you are – golfers will love it, tradies will love it. It’s a real paradise feel.”

This home will be auctioned onsite at 12 pm on Saturday, 20 November.
