Driving infringements

I was driving my boyfriends car about a month ago and recently he was sent a speeding fine for me doing 11km/h over the speed limit.

Yes, this is fine and i’m taking the one demirit point and paying the $157 fine.

But, at the time I had a NSW P1 driver licence.

Between then and getting the fine, I moved into the ACT and got an ACT licence.

My question is though, am i still able to lose my licence or get it suspended as i was on a NSW license at the time of the offence?

I’ve moved from QLD to NSW to ACT in the past few years, and not once have the details of my previous licence been carried over to the new jurisdiction. I think you’ll lose a point off your NSW licence however this won’t affect your ACT one. IMO, the states and territories need to communicate a little better?

And to those who are rubbishing the OP for breaking the law (and being quite honest and admittant about it), are any of you the same people who flash and overtake me for sitting on 80km/h outside the AMC and also while doing 60km/h or 40km/h in roadworks? No? Didn’t think so.

Doesn’t matter what state your in, if you speed you will be fined, that changed at least 20 years ago.

it will not come over to your ACT licence

Who cares…?
You got caught,,,,let it be a lesson and move on.
May not affect ya ACT licence but b careful when driving in NSW.
1 point won’t hurt unless you plan on a few more in the near future.
Atleast you owned up and did the right thing,,,,,

Did the offense occur in the ACT or NSW?

Technically the point loss will transfer across to your ACT licence. But given that the two RTAs do not communicate effectively and rarely communicate point losses to each other, it is very unlikely that you will actually lose the point from your licence. Although, I wouldn’t be going around losing masses of demerits as that may cause them to actually do some more thorough checks..

Dear, it doesn’t matter

just get your spelling right and you’ll have a successful career

and #1 it’s “lose” not “loose” – that’s a problem with those from south of the border – though I suspect it’s crept into the ACT through inept teachers.

Sorry about that, you will lose a point on your loose licence.

okaaaaaay – you think its ok its to be speeding 11 kms over the designated limit in whatever area you were in? That’s not a little bit over

For example, someone travelling at 61km/hr on a wide street, which normally would be 60 but is signed at 50… or possibly missing the 10km/hr speed limit drop coming in on the federal highway, where the road goes from 2 to 3 lanes, yet the limit drops just before the speed camera. Hardly the driving crime of the century.

In response to the serious question though, Im pretty sure you can goto any government shopfront (possibly even just call Canberra Connect) and theyll be able to tell you how many points you have or have lost from your ACT licence.

Road offences make me very angry so I’m not condoning speeding or arrogant P-platers, but I think it’s pretty clear the OP was saying “this is fine” in reference to the fact she was caught and fined and she’s going to pay. She wasn’t trying to excuse her behaviour or claim 11km/h over is not a problem. She is just asking about where the point will come from, not contesting the fine overall.

Sorry OP I don’t know for sure but I assume it will come from your current licence.

Most one pointers from interstate don’t seem to get recorded on ACT licences (unless they’ve tightened up the procedures) so don’t ask and it might never appear.

That’s not a little bit over – but i guess you’re in the masses with all the other speeding p platers… You’ve only been on the road a little while and you’re getting it wrong already? scary….

lock up yer dogs folks….

You will loose a point off your ACT Licence.
