A 32-year-old Griffith man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Wednesday, May 15) in relation to traffic offences, property damage and an outstanding First Instant Warrant.

Around 10.15pm last night (Tuesday, May 14) police were travelling westbound on Adelaide Avenue, Deakin when they observed a Subaru Impreza parked in the bicycle lane with hazard lights on.

Police pulled behind the vehicle to conduct a random breath test but the driver indicated right and drove slowly through the intersection onto Hopetoun Circuit.

Police believed the driver was trying to get off the main road for safety reasons, however the vehicle continued on.

The vehicle was later sighted in Deakin and on approaching the vehicle the driver of the Impreza reversed into a Police car twice causing slight damage.

Despite directions from police to stop and exit the vehicle the driver drove onto the cul-de-sac of an adjacent resident’s house causing damage to the front yard.

The 32 year-old Griffith man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with property damage, unlicensed driver, negligent driving, driving motor vehicle without consent, not stopping vehicle if requested and First Instant Warrant.

That would be a “first instance warrant”, not first instant. I’d expect the Police to at least get that right…

And it’s “sighted”, not “cited”.

Given they called it a first instant warrant, I’d wager a police officer didn’t write this. As I understand it, few in the media team are sworn members (someone correct me if I’m wrong).

One would assume their media team are admin staff who need to be edumacated methinks before they’re cited for crimes against the Queen’s English!

…and i don’t believe he’ll be charged with ‘first instant [sic] warrant’, rather, charged with whatever to which that warrant was purusant… (skipping bail for something else?)

who does write these things??

Constable Barcham.
