Drunken 15 year olds on the run in a red gemini

The AFP media unit have finally put out a media release (dated yesterday but only online after 9am this morning), on another amusing tale of police pursuit:

The red Holden Gemini failed to stop when signalled by police, driving through neighbouring suburbs, onto a grass oval, through the car park of the Lanyon Rugby Union Club and into parkland before coming to a stop.

Police then pursued the driver and passengers on foot, arresting the driver and one passenger. Both youths were found to be 15 years old.

The male driver will be summonsed on multiple charges including, exceeding the proscribed concentration of alcohol in blood (PCA), drive unlicensed, drive in a manner dangerous, failing to stop, failing to comply with police directions, and underage drinking.

What is the “proscribed concentration of alcohol in blood” in a 15 year old? And for that matter no charges for stealing the car? Hellooo Parents!

I guess they’ve got plenty of time to commit many more crimes before they’re old. Our taxes at work.

Their parents must be so proud.

I agree with VY name and shame.

At least they didn’t kill anyone…this time.

I would guess it was a parent’s car, taken without permission, but the parents weren’t willing to press charges for it being stolen as such (the kid’s already been charged with enough to give him a record).

I wouldn’t necessarily blame the parents for not locking up the car properly either. That’s just being unreasonable, and making assumptions that all 15 year olds will behave this way (when in fact they don’t).

The average Canberra adult would be hard pressed to tell you who Clea Rose is, let alone the average 15 year old.

The google ads often throw up some interesting matches.

Anyone noticed the ad at the bottom of the page? Hmmm.

It raises some real questions, independent of any question of culpability in the present case. Like, in the weeks around the Clea Rose inquest, how could anyone be dumb enough to do this.

Name and shame people, name and shame.

Could be that one of them owned the car. If not though, are there any laws about the securing of vehicles to prevent this kind of thing? Kind of like you have to have your firearms locked up?

They probably just took the keys from their parents or something.
I used to take my dad’s car for a few spins when I was that age…never got into police chases though.

OK, so if the car wasn’t stolen who gave them the keys?

A 15 year old is unlicenced, and is a special driver, and therefore subject to 0.02 limit.

There is no mention of the vehicle being stolen, so why would they charge him with stealing a car that isn’t stolen?

The offsider would have been the one done for underage drinking, they wouldn’t charge the kid for a PCA and then for underage drinking….

If the little shits had run over an innocent bystander, I guess it would have been the cops fault again?

FFS – the parents should be locked up with the kids…

I suspect the proscribed concentration of alcohol in blood is ‘0’. It means they get two for the price of one when you add in ‘underage drinking’.
