A 49-year-old Charnwood woman was caught nearly six times over the legal limit by ACT Policing yesterday (Thursday, March 7).

Around 3:45pm, police were called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Kingsford Smith and Drake Brockman Drive, Higgins.

A green Toyota Camry entering a roundabout collided with a street sign pushing it over and into traffic. A second vehicle struck the signpost narrowly avoiding serious injury.

The 49-year-old female driver of the Toyota Camry underwent a roadside screening test which returned a positive result. She was taken to the Belconnen Police Station for breath analysis.
The driver was found to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) reading of 0.296, nearly six times over the legal limit for a probationary license holder.

Her ACT Driver’s licence was immediately suspended and she was taken to the ACT Watch House. The woman was charged with driving whilst over the prescribed concentration of alcohol and was bailed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on March 28.

Officer-in-Charge of Traffic, Sergeant Rod Anderson said someone with this level of alcohol in their system could cause serious trauma on our roads for themselves and other road uses.

How did Charmwood go in the voting for the top 100 things to like about Canberra?

Is the spelling of “Charmwood” a parapraxis?

No. (-:

Merely a slip of the tongue Sigmund.

There’s a lot of Charnwood bashing going on. I don’t really quite understand it, but certainly reading online that the rest of Canberra mocks us isn’t going to help change the underlying issues that lead to this sort of behaviour.

Neither Charnwood or West Belco are mentioned here:

It’s almost as though no crime ever happens anywhere else, the way you snobs carry on.

I don’t see similar vitriol directed towards the entire diplomatic community:

Wasn’t there an in-house murder in Yarallumla and a shotgun incident in Narrabundah not so long ago?

Someone one painted “you lost” on the section of Gininderra Drive heading west from Kingsford-Smith. Less than encouraging, really. When did it become okay to mock people by Suburb?

They are just trolls. Don’t take it personally, there just hasn’t been any threads about cyclists to grab their attention for a few days so they need an outlet for their hostilities and Charnwood seems like an easy target.

This will be a Magistrates’ Court matter. I’m always curious why someone aged 49 is on P-plates. And I think that 0.296 is nearly six times the limit for a non-P plater too. (Isn’t the P-plate limit lower than 0.05?)

At least the ACT Police seem to have been more sensible than their Sydney equivalents, who released an alleged drink driver while he was obviously still drunk and he went back and did it again (allegedly). He’d have been too drunk to be able to follow instructions. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/driver-caught-drink-driving-in-car-park-twice-in-30-minutes-20130307-2fmdb.html

Ah no not quite given there have been two instances in the ACT in the last year or so where the police released those they arrested for DUI only to catch them behind the wheel an hour later.

Probably because they’re sick of having magistrates tear them a new one for bail refusing people for offences for which they are unlikely to face a custodial penalty. (In this case Drive Unaccompanied learner and 1st time PCA).

I just love the fact that you are driving home safe and this is what is driving home next to you at 3.30 in the arvo…..

There have been a couple of them reported on this site over the last 18 months were that same thing has happened in ACT.

I’m sure the Police don’t want to just allow inebriated persons back onto the streets, but after they have been summonsed what is the Polices right to hold them? Even for safety reasons, their own and the publics, couldn’t they then also be put into the drunk tank and let out the next day hours like the ones they catch in civic on the weekends?

I remember blowing .224 in one of those free breathalysers at the club after a massive night. I could barely stand let alone put keys in an ignition and drive… and at 3:30pm???

good god this woman is a menace.

For an area so disadvantaged in socio-economic terms (at least by Canberra standards), I have to wonder why there seems to be so much money going through liquor store cash registers. Oh wait, I just answered my own question. The vast majority of Charnwood folks aren’t murderers (chicken shop stabbings), thieves (Woolies pedestrian bashings), welfare bludgers (self-explanatory) or road crazies like this retrospective abortion candidate, but there are certainly enough people who fit that profile (25-30%) for the stereotype to be somewhat warranted.

Can’t wait for Higgins et al to opine that this woman deserves a suspended sentence and a box of chocolates because she probably has children who “need their [dangerous, law-breaking and nearly person-killing[ mother.”

No this matter is far too trivial for the likes of Tezza. The Magistrate will give her a severe tongue lashing whereas i’d give her a jolly good flogging with the cat-o-nine tails although i’m afraid she might enjoy it coz she does appear to be a masochist.

You’re missing the point. If T-Unit farts, so, too, does Refshauge, followed by Boss and then everyone else. Just because Higgins sits at the big kids’ table doesn’t mean his sentencing habits, which are about as logical as drinking faecal fluid half the time, don’t flow down to the judges holding the Fisher-Price gavels in the Magistrates’ Playpen.

Even if we cast aside the fact they are hopeless rehabilitators politically, magistrates are too ego-driven to give superior court judges excuses to throw out their own sentences at first instance after an appeal.

Higgins runs the place. Plain and simple.

Funny this, we noticed on the way to school this morning there was green plastic littered around the “keep left” on a pedestrian island here in West Macgregor. I wonder if she had done this one too!

Poor attempt for there’s a woman from Oregon US that apparently blew 0.72!

Probationary Licences are given when returning to driving after an infringement so this isn’t her first time losing her licence, and yes, the limit for a P-plater is Nil so she was infinite times over the limit.

She was driving at 480km/h? Yikes!
