Ducklings on Yamba Drive

johnboy 23 October 2013 8

This in from Matt:

Hi there,

I would like to start your day off with some ducklings I saw this morning.

All the ducks made it across safely (after several cars had to stop and beep at them, they weren’t very spatially aware ducks).

Sorry I didn’t get a photo but in the past week, a pair of Speckled Teal have been showing off their offspring around the pond on Bugden Avenue, Fadden.
There are 20 little ones. I reckon this must be some sort of a record. It’s a source of delight for small kids in the area.

More proof that the ridiculous paths they’re putting on both sides of Yamba Drive still aren’t going to stop unsafe crossing of the road.

I get the evil eye from a small herd of grazing ducks as I circumnavigate Lake Gininderra. It exacerbates my anatidaephobia.

For ducks’ sake.

Ducks are cool, but very dumb 🙂

Ah yes; Chenonetta jubata, truly Australia’s dumbest duck. Will live anywhere there is more than a puddle of water and has no road sense to speak of. My favourite drake lives in the Lyneham wetlands and has been observed attacking cars as they try to drive around him (and the poor cyclist that stopped to try and get him off the raod).
