ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service on scene at a car fire on Eucumbene Drive and Cotter Road, Duffy.

Male patient with serious burns.

Car fire has been extinguished.

Vehicle has sustained serious fire damage.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics have transported patient to The Canberra Hospital in a serious condition with 100 per-cent burns to his body.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 9.27am.

ACT Fire & Rescue will hand the scene to ACT Policing to investigate.

Having witnessed the aftermath of serious burns – including a child who received 90% burns in a car accident, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. My thoughts are with this man and his family.

I’ve always mounted a fire extinguisher within reach of the drivers seat in all my cars, like this normally works well.

Costs almost nothing and I hope I never have to use it but if its me or someone else that needs it I’ll be glad its there.

How awful for you that you couldn’t get close enough to help.

It is dreadful to say, but having seen many documentaries and items on burn victims, I think were I in that man’s position I hope people wouldn’t try too hard to save my life!

Have to agree unfortunately, there was a story on 20/20 a few weeks ago about a couple caught in fire after a plane crash. The husband had only small coverage and it was terrible. The wife though received very severe burns, I think about 50% including the face, the physical and mental toll was horrific.

Yes poor guy – with burns covering 100% of his body there is a zero percent chance of recovery – I really hope that the percentage quoted was wrong.
