Liberal Vicki Dunne is calling for openness from the investigation into child protection in the ACT.
“I’m very glad to see this review is going ahead after Joy Burch’s disgraceful treatment of vulnerable children who were forced into accommodation with no beds, hot water, or heating and glass on the floor,” Mrs Dunne said.
“But what I don’t want to see is another closed review, which is what we have come to expect from her and this government.
“That’s why today I called on the Minister to, by the end of today, table the letter from her Directorate asking the Public Advocate to conduct this investigation, noting the terms of reference.
“I also asked her to ensure the Public Advocate is properly resourced to carry out this investigation, as we don’t want to see a repeat of Bimberi where the inquiry wasn’t able to fully investigate bullying claims due to insufficient resources.
“Finally, I asked that all of the investigation’s reports be submitted directly to the Assembly, to ensure we, and the community, get the full picture on how these children came to be placed in such a horrible situation.
“Joy Burch has, to date, refused to answer my very simple question of when she first became aware of this possible breach by her Directorate, but has instead advised I’ll find out through the review.
