Dr Jose Ramos-Horta is visiting Canberra today.

It’s going to be his first official visit since he replaced Mari Alkatiri as East Timor’s PM earlier this year.

He’s going to be talking with our PM about security in East Timor, which will probably focus on whether Australian troops should stay or be replaced with UN personnel.

Dr Ramos-Horta has already publicly stated he wants the Australians to stay.

And I hear the UN is great at organising food for oil – and Swiss bank accounts.

They are also very good at hearding people into ‘safe’ havens, so it makes it easier for the enemy to kill them.

Oh my god I’m cynical!

Au contraire Thumper, the UN is, by all accounts, extremely good at organising their roots.

Also feathering their own nests, and avoiding trial.

Everything else leaves much to be desired.

my sister went to see him speak and was very impressed. he has some great views & actually wants autralian help in sorting his country out. the UN apparently think they can set it all up in two years.

Here’s Australia’s chance: kidnap him and tell East Timor that we won’t release him until they give us access to all their oil and gas.
