The Supreme Court has released the thinking of Justice Penfold in denying another challenge as part of the ongoing legal saga over the ludicrous tenure of David Eastman in a public housing flat while he serves his life sentence for the murder of Assistant Commissioner Colin Winchester of the Australian Federal Police.

At some point it is hoped David will collect his things.

When one is told to put one’s affairs in order before sentencing this is exactly what should have been taken care of.

Sadly the question of keeping the flat remains before the courts consuming legal resources.

Lawyers will tell you this represents “fairness” but we can’t help noticing it also represents lots of lawyers getting paid.

apparently the gubment resumed his flat last year and placed all his stuff in storage for which he is being charged and running a separate action against!

After 30 years wouldn’t the flat be a very interesting historical study? Imagine that a household frozen in time, with old magazines, vintage clothes etc.

Oh the nostalgia….a rifle rusting in the corner of the room, a pile of “Huntin’N’Killin’ Stuff” magazines on the coffee table (which is right next to the Yellow Pages opened on the “Escorts” page) whilst on the floor, in carefully placed piles, are hand-written ramblings and confessions which he hopes will be made into a book…

My thoughts exactly.

I wonder if as a low income earner his TV has been upgraded for digital?

Has anyone been in there since it was suggested to him to bring his pyjamas and a toothbrush for his next court appearance?

It must smell like bottom by now.

This boggled my mind some years ago. Now I am totally whelmed by it.
