Lordy be it’s like the early 90s again.

The ABC is once again letting us know about turmoil in David Eastman’s legal team:

Today it has been revealed the ACT’s Director of Public Prosecutions has challenged the appearance of three key legal representatives.

Lawyer Terry O’Donnell is to stand aside because he may be called as a witness.

Barrister John Harris also plans to stand down, and Alyn Doig who was a prosecutor during the early days of the case, says he is taking legal advice, but is also likely to step aside.

Why would it matter to the DPP who represents him if he is guilty as charged & sentenced?

It matters because if and when Eastman’s guilt is overturned, he will seek to challenge the findings by claiming his counsel had a conflict of interest.

The DPP is showing more sense than I’ve ever seen from him in ensuring that Eastman can have no possible cause for complaint about his own representation.

(And losing Alyn Doig from the team won’t hurt anyone any).

Easy does it. Alyn is terrific.

Canberra Times is reporting that testing of the Ruger rifle begins in an Adelaide laboratory next week. Any comments from forensicBOB would be welcomed.

Which Ruger rifle is that? My understanding (I may have missed something so I could be wrong) is that the murder weapon was never recovered and despite the police claiming they had located and tested every Ruger .22 sold in Australia I have been told by two people that they have licensed .22 Rugers and the police never contacted them.
Are they referring to the Ruger rifle that Eastman’s friend placed in the boot of Eastman’s car?

Read the Canberra Times article again.

There is no way known they have tested every Ruger 10-22 in Australia just not possible

Regarding the Ruger rifle, how many years between the killing and the police getting their hands on it?
Will the evidence be meaningful or admissible?

Well Eastman is more than capable of representing himself after all he does have years of experience!
