ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a robbery at the Coffee Club in Belconnen Westfield yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, August 8).

At 5.35pm, a female employee was counting money after closing the café when a man walked behind the service counter. The woman tried to grab the money however the man pushed her aside and took the cash.

The man was last seen running towards the level three car park accessed off Cohen Street. No-one was injured during the robbery.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 20’s, with a slim build and ginger or blond facial stubble. He was wearing a grey jumper, dark blue jeans and a black beanie, and was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery yesterday or saw a man matching the above description is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

The greed shown by the banks in bumping up banking transaction fees over the past 30-odd years – when the introduction of electronic banking was meant to reduce the costs of banking – is the main reason that cash still exists !!

Way off topic, but you might find this article from the RBA illuminating.

I feel for this poor lady to be the victim of such a crime of violence. Cash is a curse. Time for it to be removed from easy access. All $50 and over bills should be removed from circulation. Then we can move to purely electronic money and make life hard for crims and druggies.

What a ridiculous conclusion to make ! Only bank CEO’s would wish for such a blight on society. Make life hard for crims – of course, they never steal anything except cash do they ?

Long live Cash. Cash is what makes the world go around. The greed shown by the banks in bumping up banking transaction fees over the past 30-odd years – when the introduction of electronic banking was meant to reduce the costs of banking – is the main reason that cash still exists !!

Yeah, Coffee Club belco is a kiosk store, ie. in the middle of the mall with no gates. Coffee club coffee is actually very good, much better than most franchise rubbish. Yes the food is overpriced. No one deserves to be robbed by an aggro dipshit.

Serves them right for cheaping out on rent anyway, then.
(yeah, I know they still pay rent, and plenty of it. Probably over the odds. Just that this modern trend of putting s*** in the way everywhere gives me the irrits.)

Wow, who’s a shirty bear then?

I’m not sure if I get this…

If the cafe was closed then how did this crook get in?
Had he been hiding inside the shop waiting for the right moment?

As much as id really like to put the boot into coffee club and the miserable excuse for a coffee that they make, I think that the coffee club at belconnen is in the middle of the walkway of the mall rather than in fixed shop with closable/lockable doors.

Do malls have any security cameras at entrances/exits, or carparks? If so, their footage *may* help?

+1
If they could release some sort of footage/photo/sketch of the suspect that would be most helpful.

Maybe if they took eftpos, their day’s cash takings would not look so attractive to the local crooks.

Or more bugs could do the trick: http://the-riotact.com/the-coffee-clubs-cockroach-cannelloni/28933
