Edgars returns - New menu the big change

Edgars food

Earlier in the month there was significant alarm amongst the Deep Ainslicans that they might have to cross Limestone Avenue to get a drink.

The problem was that Edgars was closed and wild rumours were circulating it was being converted into a cocktail bar that would not be as welcoming to the wild spectrum of the Ainslie community.

Fortunately I can report that aside from the bar being lengthened and converted to a black wood finish not too much has changed.

The big news is the menu which is heading upmarket. There are a lot more vegetarian options, which is a good move in Ainslie.

Portions, however, are on the very small side for the money. Having said that execution has always been a strong suit from the Edgars kitchen and they seem to be keeping that up.

Hairy denizens of government housing still adorn the beer garden and pints of Squires are the highlight of the bar.

Long time readers will be thrilled to learn that issues with the toilet door have been remediated:

I have never eaten a good meal at the old Edgars and stopped going there a couple of years ago. if you like deep fried food it’s fine – great location, especially in summer. The last meal I had was calamari and I found it inedible. I’ll check it out again if it’s got a new menu and cooks though!

@mdme workalot when i saw the pork belly image above i thought it was Parlour.

They’ve also put the price of the burgers up, again >:(

I’ve enjoyed brunch at Edgar’s on a number of occasions and each time its been fantastic. Good value also.

Er – am I the only one who notices the extraordinary similarities to the food served at Parlour?

Not complaining of course – I love Parlour grub, but wondering if they’ve stolen their cooks….

There was plenty of cheese on the menu and stupid things like bacon on the brussels sprouts but I want to try the curry! See for yourself.

So… is this another place where vegetarian means “let’s base it around cheese”?

I have eaten at the old Edgars three times so far. Each time the food has looked great but was lacking in flavour. I don’t know if it’s cheap ingredients, under-seasoning or something else.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Has the food improved since then?

I have also enjoyed the new menu and rate the tapas options, they have this Brussels sprouts dish which is amazing considering I have not enjoyed Brussels sprouts since my childhood and even then. And the place of which I had not visited for over 7 months looked fresh but similar.

Yaaay vegetarian options! I’m a huge fan of bars that serve a nice cider and have a healthy bar snack to go with it. I had a Magners and some fantastic olives last week and that’s a definite pass. But more Sicilian olives next time please!

Pear Magners for you then!

…remediated

‘remedied’, perhaps? or has an interlocutor negotiated a truce between door and wall?
🙂
