For the first weekend of spring and a weekend for our fathers, we have loads of great events, including performances from iconic Aussie musicians to TEDx talks, the Repco Show N Shine, a scavenger hunt, the Canberra Times Fun Run and more.

Friday

Pseudo Echo

1927 & Pseudo Echo
When: 8pm Fri | Where: Canberra Southern Cross Club Woden, 96 Corinna Street, Phillip
Two of Australia’s most iconic bands have teamed up for a national tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Funky Town, a track which held the No. 1 spot in Australia for a record of 12 weeks. Pseudo Echo will perform a set of their favourite hits including Listening, A Beat for You, Don’t Go, Love an Adventure, Living in a Dream, and many more. Glenn Shorrock
When: 8:30pm Fri | Where: The Auditorium, Erindale Vikings Club, 6 Ricardo Street, Wanniassa
For one night only, Glenn Shorrock, an Australian music legend is returning to Canberra to perform songs and share memories from his 40 year career. From The Twilights to Axiom to Little River Band, hear the songs that have made Glenn one of Australia’s most popular singers. Tickets from $45, available through ticketek.

TedX Canberra
TEDxCanberra 2016
When: 8am-6pm Sat | Where: Canberra Theatre Centre, London Circuit
2016 marks Canberra’s 10th TEDx conference. This non­-profit event brings the inter­na­tion­ally recog­nised TED brand to Canberra each spring, and is a highly respected platform for thought-leaders to share creativity and ideas. TEDx­Can­berra will showcase science, technology, the arts, social issues, thinkers, innov­at­ors, and community spirit with some of Can­berra and Australia’s most inter­est­ing presenters tak­ing the stage to deliver their “ideas worth spread­ing”. Repco Tuggeranong Show N Shine
When: 10am Sat | Where: 58 Athllon Drive, Greenway
The Show N Shine offers a great day out for the family, with giveaways, raffles and plenty of food and drink for sale. A huge range of street machine, competition vehicles, muscle cars, classics, customs and more will be on display (please note vehicle entrants are invite-only). Concord of Strangers
The Concord of Strangers
When: 6pm Sat | Where: Wesley Uniting Church, National Circuit, Forrest
With only one concert in Canberra, The Concord of Strangers brings together the talented singers from the Song Company with female Australian beatboxer Bernie Van Tiel to celebrate the first ever record of a European visiting Australia in 1616. The program reflects on the discovery of the new, in a compelling vocal voyage which sets renaissance Dutch music against a contemporary Australian soundscape. afterDARK
afterDARK: Spring Scavenger Hunts
When: 7pm Sat | Where: Australian National Botanic Gardens, Clunies Ross Street, Acton
The first of five spring scavenger hunts, afterDARK provides a night of fun in the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Perfect for the whole family (please note only children 5 years+), all you need to bring is a taste for adventure…and a torch! The winner receives a “super-sleuth” prize. With fascinating discoveries and places to be explored, you can’t miss this unique event. Online bookings essential.

Canberra Times Fun Run
2016 Canberra Times Fun Run
When: 7:30am-11am Sun | Where: Rond Terrace, Parkes Way, Parkes
The Canberra Times Fun Run includes 14km, 10km and 5km options, and is a great opportunity to get fit, enjoy a fun morning sight-seeing Canberra on the move, and raise money and awareness for numerous charities. Adult entry starts at $40, with family packages available. Event entries close 5pm Saturday. Please note there are no pets, bicycles, rollerblades, etc allowed. Everyone who completes the run receives a medal and certificate, with gift certificates awarded to winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. For more information visit the website.

Battle of Waterloo
When: 10am-2pm Sun | Where: Weston Park, Yarralumla
Organised by Renault Owners Club of Canberra and the Peugeot Association of Canberra is this exciting gathering of French and British cars (including some bicycles) at Weston Park in Yarralumla. The event pays homage to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 (between the French and British armies). Traditionally there are around 100 cars to admire. Entry is free and coffee, tea and drink facilities will be available.
