Labor:

The CT reports that Jon Stanhope has found another $2 million to rejuvenate the city centre which by his own admission has become “tired and weary” during his seven year rule.

The ALP also appears to be having trouble getting all the media releases they’re sending out onto their campaign media release page.

Mary Porter is very excited that Vicki Dunne has said nice things about her.

Andrew Barr is offering $15,000 bribes to school P&C bodies if they see Labor over the line.

Messrs Stanhope and Corbell are promising to set up 12 new community fire units if they’re returned to office.

John Hargreaves office is having a go at the Liberals in general and Steve Pratt in particular over not being sufficiently supportive of Canberra’s “multicultural groups”.

Liberals:

According to the Canberra Times Steve Pratt says the ACT has a “moral responsibility” to pay for upgrades to the Kings Highway (the road to the coast for most). He’s promising to announce how much we’ll spend on NSW road once all the numbers are in.

Meanwhile Jacqui Burke is having another poke at waiting times in Canberra emergency departments. She has new numbers showing they’re getting worse.

And Zed has realised that paying teachers more is going to cost a lot of money.

In the CT election blog Ben Davey asks where the Liberals are and what are they doing?

Carers:

The ABC reports that Carers ACT have a wishlist and have assessed the parties. No word on the outcomes of these processes.

Greens:

The Greens are letting us all know how well they did at the local government elections (I know the ALP was knocked down to minor party status in Kiama) and warning that they might be heading for major party status here.

And they’ve put online details of plans to green government with renewable energy and purchasing guidelines.

Tom-tom, theres the original survey report (“the Wishlist”)
‘Have Your Say’ ACT Election Survey Report: A Report on the Carers ACT Survey of Membership Regarding Critical Issues of Concern to Carers Prior to the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly Election 2008

or the Summary
Carers – Having Their Say On The ACT’s Future: Summary Report of ‘Have Your Say’ ACT Election Survey

Theses have been up on their website for a while now.
I too have no idea where their Party assessments are Jb, but would be keen to have a squiz.

It wasn’t on their website when I checked.

does anyone know where i can find this wishlist from carers act?

What a stupid idiot Pratt is. Hey, we have a morale responsibility to fund a road in NSW. Well I see just as many NSW plates on it as I do ACT. And given Canberra Hospital gets a whole lot of patients from the coast who use that highway and jam up our hospitals, NSW owes us.

The NSW govt pays the ACT government for treating its residents. The problem on the Kings Highway is dodgy ACT drivers who overtake going up hills.

The only time that road becomes congested is when Canberrans go driving, under normal circumstances it is fine. It is Canberrans creating the extra demand. The NSW govt will never pay for a road that is congested because of interstate traffic.

Never heard of Ben Davey. He should get a real job.

With NSW bankrupt though and the Federal Government in 21billion surplus, they should pay. Make it a gift for Canberra 100. Fund a Hwy upgrade instead of some stupid light rail that people are suggestion we get a billion for.

Ben Davey – Who he?

Davey says the Libs have had a policy hiatus since August, but that’s not what I see. The Lib website has the consultation policy dated 13 September, plus an Ageing Policy dated 11 Sept, plus a Planning policy dated 4 September – since the period that Davey claims there has been a policy holiday!

And the Lib website has 10 policies, compared to only 3 on Labor’s. Labor’s website had no policies until this week. Someone hasn’t done their homework or, like a politician, is just not being honest.

But I should add, the real issue is quality over quantity. A party could easily contrive 100 policies if they were just one page each – eg: policy via media release.

The King’s Hwy will become a lot less busy when the Tarago-Nerriga-Nowra/Tomerong road is finished. That will provide an alternative route to that section of the coast, and trucks in particular will prefer it as there’s no mountains to negotiate (Clyde and Kangaroo). It’s coming along well and must be costing a fortune. There’s an elevated section through a gully that’s a bit like that moonee moonee bridge north of Sydney.

Meanwhile, the Federal gov’t is paying to fix up bits of the Kings to mitigate the effects of HQ JOC traffic. Weetalabah intersection is currently being upgraded. There’s a roundabout for the Captain’s Flat intersection, some fancy turn lanes for the Ridgeway, and that bit where you climb out of Qbn is going to be re-done, so it goes straight up through that little housing estate there before it rejoins the Kings at the top.

I noticed in other Election items that Wannabee CM Zeddy was having a crack at Andrew Barr for the teacher proposal not being costed. Question is to the Leader of the ACt Liberals, how are you supposedly paying for your smaller class sizes and extra teachers, has that been costed either?

The Kings Highway is certainly less challenging than Brown Mountain, Kangaroo Valley, or Macquarie Pass.

The Kings Highway is a decent road.
The drivers on it are the problem.

Thanks Steve but I’d rather not have my tax going to pay for a road in the adjacent state if its all the same to you.

We ought to be able to get some Federal pork for the Kings Highway – but considering that it hasn’t even been forthcoming for the Barton, statistically one of the most dangerous roads in NSW, and which even has National Highway status, I won’t be holding my breath.

$2 million? Has he has a look at the costs of urban improvements lately? $20m might just make a noticable difference.

And then there’s the Sydney and Melbourne buildings…
