Labor:

What’s this? A new green tinged independent? Or a Labor Minister?

The ALP is also rather proud of their latest animated TV ad.

Katy’s taking a swipe at the gaping hole where a Liberal Health policy should be.

Jon Stanhope would prefer the elderly not marry, but rather stay engaged. OK, he’s actually just promising to fork out $60k for a seniors directory. Wrinkly remains the new Gungahlin.

Pot:

In CityNews Jorian Gardner has been asking candidates about their histories of marijuana use. Quite strangely it seems not one of them enjoyed inhaling. It makes one wonder why anyone bothers with the stuff.

CAP:

Jane Tullis weeps for the Kaleen Tennis Courts and blames Labor.

Greens:

Shane Rattenbury has been telling CityNews what ails the plans for the new town centre of Molonglo.

Liberals:

Under the unexpected headline of “Failed sell-off hits Rhodium” the Canberra Times informs us of Zed’s plan to give clubby uni students a chance to get their snouts in the Government trough with plans to get more inter-varsity events to Canberra.

Shiny Bums:

The Shiny Bum singers have also delivered their verdict on the campaign:

Adam Verwey:

Adam is calling on the parties and candidates in Ginninderra to donate their election funding to charity, as he intends to do.

Bryans,
Having chatted to Hettinger a few times, he certainly is more switched-on than most candidates, with a strong green/science focus. His site also shows he’s got awards for something to do with satellites (so it at least sounds rocket-like)
http://www.mikehettinger.com/ if you wanted to check.

shame that he hasn’t changed the dept he is working at from DEST to DEEWR.

I consider that yet another reason to vote for him.

shame that DEST is now DEEWR, isn’t it?

Old croaky is going to croak it in 2008. The only question is whether he can rise from the dizzy height of 1 or 2%, to an almighty result like 3% or 4%. I’ll bet three beers he won’t make 3% and four beers says he won’t make 4%.

and I won’t take those odds, not just because i don’t drink anymore….

Every time I see that ad I think “hmm… if Richard Mulcahy is so down on them they can’t be ALL that bad”.

Every time I see that ad with the red stamp (you know the one I mean?), I think of that Chaser skit, ‘This person votes’ . . .

Re negative election ads: They absolutely do work. The anti union ads were some of the most effective ads for the Coalition. The ALP ‘Howard’s Battlers going off Howard’ ads were also very effective (partly because they didn’t attack Howard directly).

Negative ads work very well. You just need to hit the right chord and try to minimise the blowback.

What can I say? Politics is not noble.

Re the looney toons ad –

wouldn’t you think that they would have learned by the result of the Fed election?

don’t bag out your opposition, this doesn’t work.

oh, and Zed is an unknown?

been in the LA since 2004 – interesting that the ALP don’t know this…

The lesson from the last federal campaign wasnt that negative ads dont work, it was that
horrible policies and asking the public for a victory lap don’t work.

Negative ads (as much as I personally hate them) are very effective, and both sides have been running them.

You try to get Z to go a whole 30 seconds without mentioning school closures, or Stanhope to go a minute without talking about the divided and inexperienced opposition – you’d be waiting a while.

Keep in mind that the reasons that the ALP has such a huge advantage over the libs is because the libs couldn’t convince any one from business to bank-roll their campaign this time around.

Hardly the ALPs fault for investing in productive assets so they don’t need to make promises to the big end of town in order to put an ad on the tele.

slaxwarez, if at all true – I am glad that Shane Rattenbury got rid of Deb, she was a real liability for the Greens. Just look at the record – living in public housing while pulling 6 figures [no wonder the greens want 10% public housing in Canberra I guess they all need a place to live] – Voting with Labor against the Bushfires Coroner – Voting against the workers compensation bill. Really she had to go I don’t think even the greens could have put up with her for another 4 years

I think some of the Liberal candidates are being absolutely 100% honest bryansworld.

Whether that’s a good thing or not, I’ll leave up to you.

I thought Deb Foskey didn’t want to run again – I’d love to know what happened too if that isn’t true.

So far I’m impressed with Shane though.

Judging from his answer to the pot question

he’s one of the few honest ones…

Shane Rattenbury has been telling CityNews what ails the plans for the new town centre of Molonglo. i thought that the greens were all for it now that the holy grounds of Central Molonglo are now safe? Also following on from NarraGreenie’s comments Tuesday – you know I am not so sure that Shane Rattenburry has ‘clean record’ either. How did he get rid of Deb Foskey? I know that Deb was not the sharpest tool in the Green’s shed but as an incumbent I would have expected that she should have had the right to defend her seat? I think that Shane and his faction thought that she would not hold the seat and did the dirty on her at pre-selection.

Also Shane being a serial looser in Ginnenderra decided to grab the only ‘safe’ seat in Molonglo, although not being a women in Molonglo my be an issue just look how Charlie went last time. Anybody know what actually happened?

Translation: muck muck muck muck muck muck muck muck muck muck muck. Anybody know what actually happened?

He was in the US Air Force IIRC, which does quite a lot of work with rockets depending which bit you’re in.

I’ll have to take your word on that! Anyhow, he’s got to be a better option than those vanilla apparatchiks from ALP Central Casting.

Hi MIZ
Actually what I am really noticing is how flush Labor seem to be. Annoying ads galore. I have to say,

You have to remember that Labor will spend 5 times more money on this election than the Liberals, all those poker machines taking money off those that can least afford it so we can get more junk in the mail box. Great system!

Hettinger is actually a rocket scientist. He seems to be playing it down this time around though.

I thought he was in the Air Force, and the rocket scientist thing was just a way of making it sound more exciting.

Hettinger is actually a rocket scientist. He seems to be playing it down this time around though.

But how far can one rebel before the machine men tug the leash?

I like Hettinger, he’s a bit of a rebel.

I like rebels.

Speaking of rebels, Norvan’s painstaking attempts to point out that he only smoked marijuana in a legal setting has irked me greatly. He’s moved back a few spaces in my voting to the high end of the middle ground.

Hettinger also claims to be a rocket scientist!

I think Hettinger got his knuckles rapped last time by the ALP machine for opposing the GDE.

Re the looney toons ad – I’ve noticed quite a few Labor negative-style ads trying to emphasise the past disunity of the Libs – but surely that’s in the past and irrelevant at present, I would have thought?

Actually what I am really noticing is how flush Labor seem to be. Annoying ads galore. I have to say, I am not persuaded by them this time round – given that I live here and have seen them in action.

Sounds like Mike Hettinger. I heard an ad of his on the radio this morning where he seemed to be positioning himself as a candidate for Labor supporters who didn’t want to vote Labor – more green etc. I wonder what party HQ will make of this?

There was another Labor guy campainging on his “greeness” in Garema place… a few weeks back. I have no idea who he was though, but kept saying if you wanted to vote green, vote for him.
