Greens:

The Canberra Times is getting to know potential Green MLAs Elena Kirschbaum and Caroline Le Couteur.

Mulcahy Canberra Party:

Richard Mulcahy’s striking out for clear air with a holiday Monday tax policy announcement. The highlights of this are repealing the Utilities Tax and repealing the Fire and Emergency Services Levy. Richard wants to be the candidate promising to spend less.

Indigenous policy:

The Canberra Times reports that Labor is accusing Liberal of pinching their Indigenous affairs policy. Well what’s good for the goose eh?

Labor’s media release has now wended its way online.

Labor:

Andrew Barr is leaping adroitly on the bandwagon of the junior Raider’s grand final win.

In the Canberra Times John Hargreaves is defending ripping the bins out of the Murrumbidgee leisure spots because it will encourage people to take their rubbish home with them. Some of the people maybe, but all of them?

John Hargreaves also gets a run in the ABC suggesting that concerns toxic waste is going into landfill is merely a “campaign ploy”.

Jon Stanhope has told the Canberra Times that if he gets another go he’ll give ACT public servants 18 weeks paid maternity leave. He says this will give us the “most generous public-sector scheme in the country”. Apparently that’s a good thing. If you’d like more detail on this the announcement is finally online.

CAP:

James Sizer is mightily feared for the fate of Canberra should a Government be formed reliant on Green support. Would he prefer majority Government? Or is he suggesting CAP would make for a better balance of power?

Jane Tullis is worried that the dreaded “American School Expert”, Joel Klein, will be coming to Canberra to end civilisation.

Funny – I thought Bill Stefaniak wasn’t contesting this election.

He isn’t. I taped an interview with Bill just recently for CanberraVotes:

I am also hoping that the Assembly Speaker – Wayne Berry will also agree to be interviewed in a similar manner.

Unrelated to today’s news, I received a flyer today advocating the election of Andrea Tokaji (Lib for Ginnninderra).

An A4 flyer folded into three, and on the back it says:

Vote 1 Andrea Tokaji
then for my colleagues
in the order of your choice:
Bill Stefaniak
Vicki Dunne
Jacqui Myers
Matthew Watts

Funny – I thought Bill Stefaniak wasn’t contesting this election.

Someone must not have told the Libs…

Someone with as much arrogance as Mulcahy doesn’t need to do hard word, he just needs to assert aggressively that he’s smarter than everyone else and he can somehow massively cut taxes and make the books balance without explaining how it would ever add up.

He will go down to the bottom with barely a splash

Jakez, I think that the ‘clear cut numbers’ Richard is working on these days is how to get elected with less than 2% of the vote…

Although I approve of the principles of the Canberra Party tax policy, it has to be said that a two page policy document of principles and not clear cut numbers is something that you’d expect from the LDP, not a Party with an MLA and paid staff.

Mulcahy was shadow treasurer in the Libs and has been on his own for a year.

WHAT THE HELL HAS HE BEEN DOING?

Could Hargreaves be feeling a bit ‘stung’ by Norvan’s ad that ticks off the govt about the three Rs – roads, rates and rubbish? Two stories about rubbish over one weekend!

If they are truly worried about overflowing bins causing rubbish to end up in the ‘Bidgee, **lightbulb** how about putting in more bins, not less? – and, um, why not make them metal bins that don’t melt. Duh.

John Hargreaves thinks we are all stupid. He comes up with any stupid reason for doing something, and then thinks we’ll all agree with it.

EG – Taking away the bins will mean we all take our rubbish home.

Leaving dead kangaroos by the road will make us all drive more carefully.

Pay parking will make us all catch the bus.

And the wierdest one:
Well off residents of Griffith should be happy to have their heritage hedges ripped out, cos the govt has granted pensioners free bus travel.

… John Hargreaves is defending ripping the bins out of the Murrumbidgee leisure spots because it will encourage people to take their rubbish home with them.

What a load of rubbish!

*haha*
