Electrical smell at the GIO Building

ACT Fire & Rescue are currently on scene at the GIO building on Melrose Drive, Lyons investigating an electrical burning smell.

There is no sign of smoke or fire.

Three fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van, The Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform, Hazardous Materials Unit and a Command Officer are responding.

3:35 PM

Fire crews have detected the cause of the electrical burning smell using thermal imaging equipment.

The cause of the smell was from an electrical lighting fault on level three.

A number of people were safely evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

Crews were alerted following an Emergency Triple Zero (000) call at 3:23pm.
