7:25pm Thursday 13 January 2011 – ACT to send ACTSES task force to Queensland flood emergency The ACT Emergency Services Agency will send a task force of ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) members to Queensland tomorrow to help with the flood emergency.

The 21 person deployment (20 volunteers and one staff members) will fly out of Canberra for Brisbane tomorrow morning where they will be tasked to assist with the flood response operations in the state’s capital and/or regional areas.

The task force will return to the ACT on Tuesday evening.

A further three ESA MAPS volunteers will also head to Brisbane tomorrow to replace the current group working with Red Cross QLD. This will take the total number of ESA MAPS volunteers deployed to QLD to 18 since 29 December.

The ESA also sent two ACT Fire Brigade specialist urban search and rescue firefighters to QLD yesterday as part of a seven day Fire and Rescue NSW deployment out of Sydney.

Saw them heading off at the airport this morning and felt very proud of them, although a bit humble since I haven’t joined the SES or done anything meaningful to help – except the odd donation. Flew over the affected area and hard to get head around how extensive the flooded areas are, including Rocky and other almost forgotten zones.
