1. When oil recycling goes wrong:

Substance found in recycling oil drum

At approximately 12.30pm, the ACT Fire Brigade responded to fumes from an unidentified substance in an oil recycling bin at the Mitchell recycling depot on Flemington Road. The depot was evacuated and closed. Testing of the substance verified that racing fuel had been placed in a 600 litre recycling oil drum. The substance was sealed and the depot reopened.

The ACT Ambulance Service transported a 32 year old male to Calvary Hospital for observation after being exposed to the fumes. The patient is in a stable condition.

2. Majura SES FTW!

Majura unit take honours with the ACT SES rescue competition

The Majura unit of the ACT State Emergency Service have won Saturdays rescue competition at Kambah.

Seven ACT SES units took part, as well as volunteers from the Queanbeyan SES in NSW.

The Majura unit will now represent the ACT at the National competition in Brisbane later this year.
