On Friday night I went to the National Museum’s excellent Silk Road Night Markets. This person has blocked about 30 cars in, including mine, by parking in an entry way labelled “no parking”. I spoke to museum security – who didnt have access to a pager along to make an announcement.
I also spoke to ACT Police who couldn;t book him (presumably under the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Regulation 2000, which enables the Australian Road Rules in the ACT. This makes parking in a “no parking” zone an offence.
I called Canberra Connect who can only lodge an incident report actionable the next working day. They couldnt advise whether this issue could be resolved through TAMS enforcement processes.
Out of curiosity, i called a towing company who were powerless without a police declaration of the vehicle being abandoned.
Finally, after tweeting my frustration at the NMA, their media manager got onto someone at the event to help!
Thoughts as to why nothing could be done?
