EPIC Shell Petrol Station - Closed down???

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what has happened to the Shell Petrol station at Exhibition Park? I have been away from home for a while and returned the other day to see it all fenced up, the pumps removed and the shop empty. I’m sincerely hoping this is just a renovation but I don’t get the feeling this is as the huge shell sign has also been removed.

Can anyone shed any light on this mystery? As I said, I hope its for a renovation otherwise Watson residents aren’t left with a close petrol station for those days when you’re running on empty.

The closest option would be on the corner of Antill & Federal Highway but nine times out of ten this is in the complete opposite direction to where anyone is traveling on a day to day basis.

Any information would be great =)

Thanks

Thanks to all those who answered my question with useful information and not critcism on the fact that I may let my car run on empty or that I liked the extra convenience of having the shell station located on my route to work =)

As you said the one on the highway, a couple in dickson, lyneham, mitchell, 3 in braddon.

btw TP3000 it’s ‘would have thought’ not ‘would of thought’. Common error but worth avoiding.

and while we’re there, ‘would have closed down, not ‘of’ – another. (like ‘try and…’ – should be ‘try to…’ i want a ‘grammar nazi’ category rather than my ‘veteran rioter’!)

That’s nothing. I got a message from a friend today who doesn’t just say “anythink” – he typed it too…

Those mistakes were on purpose to see if the public in 2010 actually notice mistakes in ones grammar. [rolls eyes back like a sad puppy]

As already said, it will reopen as a Caltex Woolworths. It is closed for three months, not 18, not 6, not a few weeks. Source? Working at a caltex, working at summernats, newspaper.

WGAF Troll Sniffer,Who do you work for…The SPELLING POLICE?

So the 2 servo’s 100m up the road are too far away or the 2-3 servo’s at Dickson ?? Such a shame you might have to drive in the opposite direction to get fuel. My closest servo is a 5-10 min drive for me in the opposite direction, but do you see me whinging ?? Oh wait… Hmmmmm …

Anyways – Poor, poor you.

There was a tendering process for the site (Not sure what the go with that is- I would of assumed they owned the land) and Shell tendered for it but lost the tender, so it has closed down for good.

Just because one ain’t in your suburb, don’t panic the world won’t end.

Coles express lost the site contract it will reopen as Woolworths Caltex in a couple of weeks

FFS…the servo at Antill/Federal Hwy is probably only a minute drive away and there is a nice big roundabout there where you can turn right quite easily or there is the Woolies/Caltex and the Coles/Shell at Dickson which is only a couple more minutes away. What sort of clown lets their vehicle run that low on fuel?

Apparently Shell didn’t win the lease renewal, not sure if the lease purpose means another petrol company is taking over or if the land will be put to some other use.

btw TP3000 it’s ‘would have thought’ not ‘would of thought’. Common error but worth avoiding.

a mate from work was in there not long after the boganats, and the bloke behind the counter told him it was the last time he will fill up there. woolies have bought it out, but there is apparently some caveat on the sale that says the arent allowed to open up there for 18months.

second hand info, so feel free to correct this

There are Coles/Shell and Woolies servos at Dickson less than 2km down Northbourne than a few hundred metres off to the side.

EPIC put the service station up for tender about a year ago and the lease now belongs to Woolworths. The current buildings and facilities will be completely demolished and a new station will be built, there will be improved access to the station too from what I have heard. The fencing is probably an indication that work has begun, I would think it will probably take around 6-8 months to complete.

It was open for Summernats, but I would of thought they would of closed for renovations after the Canberra Show as after that things are quiet at EPIC for a while.
