Playing the media like a violin today’s budget pre-announcement is $605,000 from Andrew Barr for Exhibition Park:

The works will significantly upgrade the existing ageing facilities and help to attract more events and exhibitions to EPIC.

The Conference Centre and Parkes Room are crucial to hosting larger events as they link the Budawang and the Coorong, EPIC’s two major pavilions.

Works will include new automated entry doors, an acoustic dividing wall and acoustic ceiling tiles in the Parkes Room.

Exhibition Park has an outstanding reputation for hosting a wide range of events and this upgrade will further enhance their ability to attract even more events to Canberra.

I can’t see $600K solving the problems of the Budawang as a function or music venue…

On a related topic, I saw 2CC tweeted today about an ACT “budget leak”. Since when does a media release from a Minister constitute a “leak”? At least in ACT they are up front enough to bypass the “leak” charade that none of the federal media could be bothered calling to account.

This will do nothing to attack new events.

Well, that’s a relief.

Those acoustic tiles are actually pretty expensive.

600k to get:
-new automated entry doors,
-an acoustic dividing wall and
-acoustic ceiling tiles in the Parkes Room

I should have been a tradie

This will do nothing to attack new events. Where is the report on the events that turned down being hosted at EPIC because it didnt have automatic doors?
