ESA funding ‘Black Hole’

Thumper 23 November 2005 3

I have previously commented upon the apparent lack of interest and thus funding for emergency services in the ACT. Recently we saw the launch of the new Community Fire Units, and yet we still have SES units and RFA Brigades in substandard lodgings with little or no chance of moving, despite the bureaucratic rantings of one Mr Hargreaves who keeps telling us that the government takes the ESA seriously and is putting policy into place for things to happen.

Given this, it is interesting to see that the Canberra Times through the Opposition is now telling us that the ESA is one great funding blackhole, sucking all monies it is allocated into some financial no man’s land, never to be seen again.

On the other hand, Mr Hargeaves assures us that everything is normal.

Given the latters track record I’m leaning towards the truth being somewhat closer to what the CT and Opposition claim.

To be fair to Der Commissar I believe he’s doing the best he can yet hamstrung by political decisions and ineptness.

More likely they’ve been spending it on Peter Dunn’s uniforms – the man seems to change every five minutes – and there seems to be more and more braid every week…..

Perhaps the twenty dollar notes have been used to start the backburning we’ve been working on lately… That or there are a couple people rolling around on piles of money naked as we speak…
