1. Belconnen Mall ablaze:

    The ACT Fire Brigade has extinguished a fire inside Coles Supermarket at Westfield Belconnen.

    At approximately 6.15pm, 7 fire units responded to the call, with the fire contained to 2 aisles.

    Smoke was extracted from the building, and an estimated 700 people were evacuated. The ACT Ambulance Service was also on scene and no injuries were reported.

    The building reopened shortly before 8pm, with an estimated $30,000 damage to the supermarket. Stock losses unkown. The area sustained significant water damage. Investigations into the cause are underway.

2. Kaleen smash:

    The ACT Fire Brigade and ACT Ambulance Service have attended a 2 car motor vehicle accident on Baldwin Drive, Kaleen.

    From 8.20pm, 2 female patients were freed from their vehicles and taken to the Canberra Hospital in a serious condition.

    The first patient, aged 39 years sustained chest injuries.

    The second patient, aged 23 years was treated for lower limb and arm injuries after being trapped in the vehicle for an estimated 80 minutes. Hydraulic equipment was used to remove the roof, doors and push the dashboard off the patient.

3. Charity run:

    Staff and volunteers from the ACT Emergency Services Agency will pound the pavement around Lake Burley Griffin tomorrow, in memory of a former ACT Fire Brigade member, and to raise awareness of heart disease. ??

    The Darren Wall ACT Fire Brigade Heart Foundation Fun Run is held every year to honour one of the members of the ACT Fire Brigade, who passed away due to a heart problem. ??

    Now in its 9th year, the fun run will commence opposite the Carillion in Kings Park at 10am. Participants can run, walk or even dress up in costume for the 5 kilometre run. ??

    All funds raised will be donated to the Heart Foundation.

Powder scare at the Department of Infrastructure

What was with the fire brigade and the cops on the other side of the building from Ausaid in civic, near the interchange? It was on friday arvo I think.
