Eskrima in Canberra?

Is there anywhere in Canberra to learn eskrima/kali escrima?

So far I’ve found a school called Black Eagle in either Turner or Hawker – not sure if it’s even still open as different locations/numbers are listed and they have no web site and I couldn’t get through to anyone.

I’ve also found a guy who will tutor privately but it’s way out of my budget.

I’d love to know how the search went as well! I am looking for a school in Canberra now.

I find myself with the same query.

OP, did you discover information about an active school. Apparently one of their 16y.o. students did well in competition recently.

I’ve always thought it strange that the name of the country is spelt The Phillipines yet people from there are Filipinos, not Phillipinos. Strange quirks in spelling.

Another “strange quirk in spelling” is how you spelt the entire country wrong.

PHILIPPINES is the correct spelling. One “L,” two “P’s.”

If you think thats strange, wait til you hear what the locals at Whakapapa call their humble town.

Maybe you could try contacting the Filipino Community Council? They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Give a call to this guy.

He taught me MANY years ago. (About 1998) He was exceptionally good. I did about 1 semester of training under him. At the end of the day, I had to cut back on martial arts and decided to focus on Wushu.

Importantly, he is training in this. He knows the style and he would know where you can do classes in Canberra.

If that fails, go into Planet Max (and of the stores). They all have a folder filled with flyers and notes about which martial art school trains where, when and how much.

Good luck mate.

Thanks guys – the number is Black Eagle but I’ll try it again. The other advice is also good. Good to hear it might still be somewhere.

i thought at first [mis]read that you wanted esquimaux in canberra – i know it’s a little brisk here some mornngs, but…

The Idiot contemplates this question:
1. There are many ice cream shops in Canberra. I screama for ice creama. Surely no-one spells that badly? The rest of the post is well written. Can’t be that.
2. Or is that the language Eskimos speak? Perhaps when they’re shouting?
3. But aren’t they called Inuits today anyway? I’d like to visit Canada…(Pauses, thinking about Canada. Smiles, remembering lumberjacks. Frowns, because only dags recite Monty Python *even to themselves*.)…

(After lengthy pause, she looks at the link. Oh…)
4. So if Eskrima involves sticks, does Kali Eskrima involve more sticks, because Kali has so many hands?
5. Sorry OP, can’t really help. Good luck with the stick thing.
6.(Was that self indulgent? No, I’m never that, she says.)

I think the silence confirms my suspicion that there are no schools!
